funny squat question
after watching ronnie in his redemption video. i realised when he does squats, he racks the bar on his back FACING the rack. so thus, he would take a step back, do squats and re-rack facing the rack too. hwoever, for me, i rack it on my back facing AWAY from the rack, take a step forward ,do squats then re rack with my back facing the rack. i sometimes have to tilt my back a little side ways to re rack it. i use a rack similar to ronnie's, and not a power rack. do you guys see any potential problems with my way of racking the bar(getting into and getting out of)
P.S i know i spell -ack way too many times... |

Racking it like you do, doesnt seem safe to me. IMO you definately want to see where the bar is going, and that it gets seated properly.

man, walking backwards like that with load on your back and trying to get the weight in the rack (or even worse, walking into the rack to hard) seems like a great way to blow a hammie. |

I would practically have to go out of my way to do squats like that.

MeLo, I did squats like you when I started but now do them facing the rack (and the mirror). I find that much better all round.

What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)

I would not want to be trying to rack it, walking backwards, after 5 sets to near failure. GREAT way to injure yourself...

I used to face away, but that was because I had a ghetto setups that allowed me to do squats at home. At the gym, I face the rack. I hate just hoping that the bar is going in.

ronnie does them the safe, correct way... You do not! I don't see the benefit of the way you do it...only potential risk!

I use a power rack for squats.
I unrack and walk forward and step back to re-rack. How the hell can you say there's a right or wrong way of preference. |

However, there's a mirror infront of my rack so i can see the pins i'm aiming to re-rack on. I take one step back, his the bar against the back, drop it onto the pins and hey presto. For a squat rack, the lopsided issue can be dealt with by means of a spotter. With no spotter, just be careful. End of the day, he's not doing it wrong or right if he's managing with it and it's working for him. |
