Question Home or Gym ?

I hate working out at a gym
Too many people buggin, tryin to pick you up, etc, etc.....
I really enjoy working out at home and you save a ton of money too
The only problem I have found is the back exercises are limited at home.

My home gym includes;
300 pounds
straight bar
4 dumbbells
bench
leg extenison

What are your thoughts on home gyms and what do you prefer?

I'm not familiar w/ home gyms. What is that straight bar? Something to do chins on?

You can get a decent back workout at home w/ that stuff I'd think. Do chins/pullups (even if you have to go to the park and use a bar there )

one arm db rows, bent over bb rows, SLDL...you can even simulate a t-bar by loading plates on one end of a bb only. Stick the empty end in a corner to help keep it in place, wrap a towel around the bar for a grip and lift.

You don't need a bunch of cables to build a nice back.

I prefer working out at home over the gym. I hate waiting to use equipment.I agree with w8lifter about the workouts you can do at home for your back. One piece of equipment I wouldn`t be without it the chin-dip station. It is great for back workouts and the dip station is good for your chest and tris as well as great ab workouts. James your in the Toronto area, you can go to fitness depot and pick up a chin-dip station for about 200.

he's probably refering to an olympic bar, ya know the average 7' bar people use to squat, deadlift, bench press, etc........
James i suggest you get a power rack http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/92561.html

I work out at home. There is only one gym in my lovely little town and I have been banned for life.Something about some jerk off kid trying to work in while I was in the midst of my squats.Poor kid wont be squating anything anytime soon.It really was an accident.

I train exclusively from home.In my opinion, commercial gyms suck. All they play is Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys.People think the squat rack is for curls, and there is always one of those morons who snorts and growls during every set of benches.Every time I walked into the gym and witnessed these goings on, a certain phrase from a movie popped into my head-"When did the damn circus come into town?I didn't see no trucks!".Last month I finally broke open the piggy bank and purchased a home gym.So far I've got a power rack with chin bar, olympic straight and e-z curl bars,350 pounds of olympic plates,2 adjustable dumbells,250 pounds of standard plates,a swiss ball, heavy and speed bags and a stationary bike. Now I can listen to some Creedence while blasting through a set of squats and the only antics going on is my son dancing around the living room(he loves Creedence Clearwater Revival).Home gyms rule.

I've got a great home gym, two power racks with cable's so I can do cable cross overs, around 600lb of plates, dumbbells from 5 to 75lb and some leg extension/curl seat Plus a tread mill.
But I never use it!!!
Only the odd time in the winter when its just to cold to start the car.

I love the gym, mines never over crowded and there's just something about seeing all those women lifting that gets my blood pumping.

I agree Scotty. I never work out w/ the same intensity at home as I do at the gym. It's the whole atmosphere. Luckily I'm not at a commercial gym, but a staff college gym, so there's no chicks in thongs w/ pink dumbells toning their biceps in the power rack But I do have to put up w/ 250lb guys leaving their 6 plates on the damn machines

All things considered, I prefer the gym over a home workout. Being surrounded by iron and equipment, as well as other people working hard, helps keep me focused and motivated. Besides, you can not beat the range of equipment at the gym.

Me, I prefer working out at home.
1st - there's no monthly payments or stupid ass contracts you have to sign.
2nd - you can workout anytime you want in whatever you want. I workout in my underwear most of the time.
3rd - Don't have to wait to use any machines
4th - Listen to your type of music
5th - it's just more conveinant

my 2cents anyway
