I usually take a 50% week every 8 weeks or so.

An old friend of mine once told me to take a week off after working training for 3 months straight. What do you guys think?

I take a week off something like every 9-12 weeks. I kind of just go by feel.

Do you guys also feel like your losing your well earned muscle or is that my lost my muscle phobia?

I probably take off a total of 3-4 months a year because I travel a lot and I don't train when I'm not at home...
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
I take a break when my body tells me I need one.

bad habits aren't good you should quit that. Maybe thats why over half the people who train, don't grow, hence over trainingOriginally Posted by min0 lee

Min0 I hate taking time off from the gym, it messes with my head... that's why I take 50% weeks instead, it's still a break from the heavy training and it's easier on me both mentally and the week following as I am far less likely to get DOMS.

The funny thing is, when I do take a week or two off I get alot of compliments like "damn your getting huge" or "you juicing'' . It's funny though.Originally Posted by Dmwrss

I see, yes it does mess with the head.Originally Posted by BritChick
when you take that extra week or so off from the gym, you aren't training or (overtraining) that could be why you seem bigger than usualOriginally Posted by min0 lee

Your right.

nope...when you achieve a certain bodyweight and maintain it for many years your body fights to stay at that weight (i.e homeostasis). sometimes I just don't feel like eating that much for several weeks and my weight never dips below 240...Originally Posted by min0 lee

so true LAM. I've also read about homeostatis. Good stuff, it can be your worst enemy or your best friend in both kinds of hard times. If you don't feel like eatting or can't at the moment, your body will fight to stay that way. But it also works both ways. If you wnat to gain mass it also wants to stay the same as well. You have to give it more calories than it can overlook, to the point to where it either stores it as fat, or uses it as muscle repair
I take a week off every 4 months. I try to schedule it around vacations or holidays so to be sure I don't go insane with nothing to do when I'm usually at the gym.

That sounds like a better idea, by the way...what does DOMS mean?Min0 I hate taking time off from the gym, it messes with my head... that's why I take 50% weeks instead, it's still a break from the heavy training and it's easier on me both mentally and the week following as I am far less likely to get DOMS.
I started doing that. Very convenient.I take a week off every 4 months. I try to schedule it around vacations or holidays so to be sure I don't go insane with nothing to do when I'm usually at the gym
