difference in barbell row hand positions

what are the main differences between doing a barbell row with an underhand grip with about the same hand position as your bench press vs. using a v-bar around the barbell, stradling the barbell with the weight loaded on one end and rowing this way???

You would think the wider hand position will target lats a bit more, but isn't that what your pullups are for to hit the lats, leaving the rowing for back thickness? If that is the case I can see how using the v-bar would make the middle of your back thicker, while not concentrating so much on lats or rear delts.

But overall, which makes more sense to use assuming you are doing your pullups and chinups as well ?

The wider hand position does not target the lats more IMO.

So you are of the opinion that the best lat exercises will be pullups and chinups? So rowing would be for middle of the back thickness in your opinion?

I do wide-grip chinups for lats. And I sometimes throw in pulldown for a shock.
