    elbow pain during bench

    Hi yall,

If I bench with a barbell I tend to experience left elbow pain (maybe tendonitis not sure) but if I use DB's I don't get any pain. Why is this? Does it mean my form using the barbell may be wrong?
What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)

One thing, are you using a lot heavier weight when using the barbell? You may not be lifting heavy enough to hurt it when doing dumbbells. Also, you might have a slight different range of motion between the barbell and dubbells.

mmmmmm the combined DB weight is a bit less than the BB but not by heaps. Don't think it's that. The ROM, or path is somewhat different. With DB's you end up with a narrower grip at the top of the movement as you bring the DB's together, whereas with a BB your grip is wider, maybe my grip is too wide.

Could be your form, pay attention to how you use DB versus BB.

    How wide is your grip?
I have the same pain but I never feel it during chest execises.
I have to stay with close grips for my triceps.

I been grippin the bar with my little finger an inch inside the 'smooth' ring around the bar. I'm about 5'8". Sound too wide?

After I benched, I did dips and really felt it in the elbow but it's more of an irritating pain that a pain kinda pain if you know what I mean. I used to get it surfing as well (from paddling). However, after about 30 min the soreness completely goes away. Think I'll just keep using DB's and only do BB once in a while.

I grip the bar just slightly wider than shoulder width.
I wear one of those braces around my elbow to ease the pain.

Little finger being your pinky? Sounds maybe equivalent to what I use dunno, but you are probably benching much higher on the chest. I am about 3 inches below the nipples, forefinger outside of the ring.

Definitely your form. Because if it were the same thing, it wouldn´t be a different thing.
