    How do you handle injury?

A couple weeks ago I pulled my right rear delt doing upright rows.....now it bothers me anytime I'm doing any pressing movemment...my question is this what do you do in my case...in the past I try to work past/around the pain BUT it never heals....today I made it a light day for shoulders just to give it a little more time to heal.....should I just stick it out...I'm in a weight gaining phase right now.....

I would say lift light less often. If you can still do your legs. Keep cals a little above maintainence. And hope for a quick recovery.

you sure it's not your rotator cuff?

you handle it by not doing anything that causes the pain, or if needed take time off completely, if you continue to train and there is pain not only is it not healing but you could make it worse and just prolong your problems.

...could be the rotator...should I try to work around it...doing easy shoulder stuff that doesn't hurt it? It really hinders my bench presses and of course military presses....thanks for the input!

if presses aggravate it then you should not do them.

Don't do anything that causes it pain for a while. Take time off completely if the pain persists. If taking time off completely does nothing, then see a doctor.

    the suggestions above are perfect.

over the past two years I have had nagging shoulder pains in my right shoulder, at one point I stopped doing any movements that involved the shoulder, chest and back movements included. It sucks, but is better than the alternative of hurting yourself further

Take at least a week off.

Try training after this, you may need 2 weeks off.

If it is a serious injury or the pain becomes chronic, you should see your doctor & have an X-Ray or MRI done.

"some" exercises just aren't suited for everyone. If an exercise causes the "bad pain", than don't do the exercise.

A friend of mine could never do pullovers of any kind no matter what b/c it caused him pain in his shoulders every time he raised the DB or ez bar back behind him for the stretch.

if i do an injury then i will not excersise that for atleast a week as nothing is better for healing than rest, thrustraiting but will be worth it when you can get back to your normal work out with out the pain

I had the same injury. Never stopped hurting until I left it alone for about 2.5 weeks. Seems OK now...I still keep an eye on it.

man, shoulders can be very difficult to deal with. I didn't touch weights for my upper body probably for 4 to 5 months while rehabbing a rotator cuff injury. It's better now, but I always wonder when it'll rear it's head again.

I would tread very carefully with this...it can get worse quickly, especially if it's the cuff.

If you insist on being in the gym, you may want to lay off shoulder work for a while, and anything that ties them in. Perhaps even some light resistance work with rubber bands to strengthen the shoulder. That was the bulk of my physical therapy work....light resistance work. Consult an orthopedist.

    it's probably your rotator cuff.
take some time off from doing anything that causes pain in your shoulder.

if it doesn't get better, go see a dr.
