Talking Advice for training, please help...

Whats up everyone, I'm new to this forum.... but plan on sticking around for a while! I guess I just got into body building about 2 1/2 months ago, when I began working out hard, real hard. Prior to that, I was a long distance runner, so you can see where this post is going already...

With the help of an array of food at college, and protein every day and 2-3 hours a day in the gym, I jumped from 141 to 164 in the past 2 1/2 months... Problem is now, my muscles are beginning to plateau... and its making me mad. I have two problems right now... I want to continue to bulk up in weight... (Last time I was checked, I had 6% body fat and was 162 pounds... _ but still have a good clean cut.. My abs are the hardest part of my body to get out, and I am having the most trouble with them.. I can't do any hard cardio because I will lose weight out the gazoo... My metabolism is still so high.... but I still want to bulk at the same time!! Any ideas on what i can do? All help is great!

By the way, I'm 18, my name is Mark, and I go to Temple University... I'm 6'1" 1/2 and weigh 164 pounds with 6% body fat... Hope to have some pics up soon...

Looking forward to hearing advice/suggestions... THANKS!

How do you know your bodyfat is 6 percent? If that's the case, your abs would be ripped.

If your metabolism is high, eat as much as you can and weight train progressively 3 or so days a week

    rest more
What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)

I wish they were ripped (my abs), but they aren't!
I had my body fat tested just under a month ago (and plan on getting it done again...)

Cardio wise, should i be focused less on this aspect of my workout if my metabolism is so high, or should I try and still do a certain amount of cardio every day?

Thanks for the replies so far!

it is surprising that ure not poking someone in the eye with your abs at 6% bf!!!they must be underdevelopped, in which case, u need to give em a pounding in ur training. Other wise, u may be retaining water(?), have loose skin or simply be plagued by belly fat!
I wouldnt brush off cardio completely, but surely do go at it moderately(like on non lifting days) while upping very clean cals progressively until u break thru ur plateau. You should also consider spending less time training...U dont grow at the gym, Ull grow while u rest.

    Just my 2 cents...

    Thank you so much!
Yes, I think my abs are undeveloped but I seem to work them out extremely hard on the days I am, and its frustrating because I have a relatively good cut so far but the only thing missing are my abs. Will get you guys pictures as soon as possible!

2-3 hours at the gym every day is too much. This is going to sound weird, but I suggest you take a week off before doing anything else. When you come back, start with a fresh new routine.

Get your diet into gear. Protein is not the only thing of importance. You need to head over to the diet & nutrition section. Diet is what will make or break your mass gains. I bet you're not eating as much as you think you are.

Cow Pimp is right. Take the time off and develop a new workout routine. If you've been using machines, try incorporating free weights or cables. Everyone needs a change in their routine every few months or so.

Protein is good. but you also need some good carbs (not a bunch of sugar). There are some stickies in Diet and Nutrition that will help.

I've taken the week off already, and I use more free weights than machines with my workouts. Through Winter break of me being at home at the gym in my town, I've lowered the amount of time I'm in the gym to under an hour and 15 minutes... My diet now consists of lots of vitamins, carbs, and protein. Just trying to find the right formula... Thanks so much for all the advice so far!!!

    lol.

Anyway, with 6% bodyfat you have great potential for those abs of yours, my advice is start doing deadlifts and squats if you arent already, they'll help build up your core (well your whole body infact) 2-3 hours in the gym is rather excessive, you wanna cut back big time. Whats your routine at the moment?

if you've reached a sticking point maybe try the Power/ Rep Range/Shock routine, I'm getting good results from it and it's been especially designed so your muscles don't reach a plateau.

also on the cardio side u don't have to dismiss all together just do a slow and steady fat burn session, about 30 mins or so on your non lifting days, just make sure your resting enough and your diet is in check.
