Odd high intensity training regime my friend brought up

My friend suggested a certain High Intensity Training (HIT) routine that he said he had been getting good results from. But i dont know if i even believe the guy that it works. He said that you do 8-12 reps of ONE SET of each of the following all in one work out:

legs (say half 2 exercises max)
    back
    shoulders
    chest
other half of legs (2 max)
    bi's
    tri's

Do it 3 times a week. keep in mind each is ONE SET of 8-12 reps... And youre supposed to do all this all in under 15 min. Sounds absolutely ridiculous to me.

I dont see how this would work when everyone else typically does 15-20 sets (from what i have seen) of ONE BODY PART PER WORKOUT!!

    Feedback anyone??

It's the Ellington Darden / Arthur Jones style HIT.

It works very well. It's also fantastic for conditioning.

    Sounds absolutely ridiculous to me.
    You're wrong.

Darden suggests HIT in a full-body method. Not all HIT routines are based like that. Switch it up if you'd like. Do back and bis on one day, chest and tris on another day, shoulders and legs on the following day.

HIT is an excellent method of training.

this is similar to what I do, but i do not do it 3 times a week. I only do it once every four days. As long as you don't cheat yourself and stop short of that failure it seems to be working. Push tell you drop the bar (on the safety bars) or you did not go tell failure.

so its intended to be a full body work out in a 15 minute period.. how often must u do it to see results..
is it healthy to train like that all the time.

It probably won't take 15 minutes to do it.

Um, you see results from workout one, I've trained guys on the Darden program. Very affective especially considering time-result ratios. It is, however, the most torturous training around. Very, very hard.

It is more than healthy to train like this all the time..

DD -- when you say absolute failure and its tough to train, I would really like to see a video of you doing some curls or benching or what not. I really think it would be a good comparison to how hard I go at it.

does this style work for bulking?? or just conditioning

    edit:

and would it work better than my current pyramid routine which which looks something like:

    day one - shoulders
    day two - back
    day three - chest
    day four - legs
    day five - arms
    day six - rest
    day seven - rest
    repeat

each day is 4 exercises of 10-8-6-4 reps weight being increased appropriately for failure on each set...

This type of workout has proven very effective for many. However, you have to make sure you are hitting absolute failure. For example, if you're squatting, then don't stop pushing until the weight literally forces you back down and the bar stops on the pins.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

I think it will still take you a while. I think mine actual workout takes 30min, but never really timed it.
