Is the Bowflex a legitimate piece of equipment?

I have a Bowflex right now which is how I do my chest/back because we have no room for a weight bench. Is that thing really any good compared to free weights? I'm just wondering how it translates into real weight in terms of the "power rods" . Should I just skip it and go to the local gym?

If you have access and the money I would skip it and go a local gym. I have used my friends bowflex and was not really impressed. The so called 'power rods' can not match up to free weights.

He's right too ... they are a bitch after install. People always ask how come their new Bose speaker system doesn't sound as good as it did in the store ...

Back to topic though ... the new female Bowsux model that claims to be 50? I'd hit it ...

Bowflex sucks. Save the money and go to the gym or buy a bench and some free weights.

Yes! Absolutely! If you have a choice you should go to the gym. You can't begin to touch the effectiveness of free weights with a machine like the Bowflex. You'll also get a great deal of inspiration just from being in the gym atmosphere. That being said, to say it is not a "legitimate" piece of equipment isn't entirely true either. No, the quality of the machine isn't up to the standards you would expect for something as high priced as that. But, given a choice between working out with a Bowflex and not working out at all, the Bowflex is a much better choice. That, in my mind, makes it a "legitimate" piece of equipment.
Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???

I can't believe ANYONE would buy into the "20 minutes a day, three times a week" nonsense.

    Does any really believe that?

you would be surprised. every once and a while somebody comes along the board and trys to say that the Bowflex is comparable to free weights...

I will never say the bowflex can come close to free weights, because it can't. But I still stick by my position that the bowflex is a decent piece of equiptment that can provide adequate results for most average people looking to improve overall fitness.
