    Bad knees. Sugestions for cardio?

    Hello,
I live in frigid Minnesota so I am unable to jog right now, and besides, I have bad knees so I am trying to stay away from high impact exercises.
I own Tony Little's Gazelle, but I am unsure if this is sufficiant enough for fat burning cardio. I haave no resistance on it either.

So does anyone have any suggestions for indoor cardio exercises that is good enough to burn fat, but also is not hard on the knees?

Also, what about weight training the legs? Lunges and squats do a number on my knees as well. Is there a better exercise for working the legs but save the knees?

    Thank you.

Yeah, ellipticals are good, and MAYBE a stairmaster, I don't know how bad your knees are though.

    Suggestions:

    1. Youre on your knees too much.
    2. Do higher-intensity lifts.

My suggestion is to start doing some corrective exercise to fix and strengthen your knees rather than trying to work around them. If your joints are dysfunctional then it's a good idea to work on them - you can heal them and get back into your routine in no time.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

I agree with the corrective exercises somewhat. I have bad knees myself (have had both arthroscopilly repaired, one when I was 12 and the other when i was 18). I can lift them hard and run on them but they have their limits. Too much running is what causes pain and swelling. I would suggest lifting like normal and low impact cardio like the bike or elliptical.

    Elliptical Elliptical

I also agree on using the Elliptical trainer, no shock cardio.

One thing to remember about your knees....if it's hurting while your training don't do the exercise. A torn miniscus is not going to heal on it's own. If you feel pain it can make it worse! Use caution with bad knees or you may have to throw your leg routine out for good....

I have dodgy knees, the only thing I can get away with for cardio is the elliptical.
