    uh, when i'm training, i can't.

    not enough 0xygen goes into my lungs if i breathe only through my nose.

    I never follow the "In through your nose, out through your mouth" rule. For one, I find it uncomfortable. Plus, no one has given me a good reason why I should.

    I was told about this years ago and for some reason it feels good while doing benches. But I still don't know why.

    I have heard that those who practice yoga and martial arts recommend this type of breathing.

    The idea is that it takes longer to breath in thru the nose than the mouth, so your inhale is longer and will be deeper. The exhale is not as important to stretch, so mouth is OK.

    Good for some things, but when I lift I don't even think about this.

    For martial art's most of your power comes out as you exhale when punching and kicking,also is a big factor when sparring,so it might apply to doing heavy lifts in relation to your exsplosivness

    I still don't see the point of this though.

    When i'm reppin' out squats, i don't want a slow-ass breath coming in through my nose, i want as MUCH air as possible going into my lungs as fast as possible so i don't pass-da-fuck-out

    wouldn't breathing "to fast" cause hyperventilation I wouldn't want to pass out while doing squats ither

    That is true! I do hold my breath as I push the weight up and then let it out at the end of the rep I did chest today and that is exactly what I did.

    Possibly people chest breathe when they breathe through the mouth? Not sure.

    I've had a deviated septum since birth which has been improved slightly with 2 operations so breathing through the nose is impossible most of the time.
    What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)

    same here. I took a heavy shot square to the snot box a couple years back and that, coupled with allergies has rendered my nose useless.

    OK, now THERE is a valid reason! I've never heard that before. I tend to cramp up during the early stages of biking season, so maybe "proper" breathing can help prevent that.

    Me too. I find that taking a deep breath and holding it helps stabilize my core on heavy lifts.

    The only time I concentrate on breathing is when im doing deadlifts. I take a big deep breath, grab the bar, and exhale on the way up

    One reason to breathe in through the nose to filter and warm the air though from a medical standpoint.
