    Correct way to spot?

What would be the correct way to spot someone doing a bb BP? Would you use a wide grip, if the person is using a narrow grip and v.v.(i guess an alternate grip is best)? do you spot just enough to enable the weight to move up slower than the reps he was doing or try and match his rep speed? of course spotting should ONLY begin when the person seems to be on the verge of getting 'stuck' or asks to be spotted.

Similar elbow spot for DB BP's?

DB BP's should be spotted at the wrists not the elbows... saw a guy smash in his mouth and lose his front teeth being spotted this way, it was a very gruesome scene.

not really...thats a matter of preference... I get what you mean, but typically with a spot under the elbows the wrists won't give out. Spotting the wrists is kind of awkward.

I was asked by a guy to spot him while doing incline DB presses (65x2). But he specifically asked me to spot him at the elbows. I didnt push hard at his elbows. I applied enough force to move the DB's up slowly and spotted him for 2 reps only. He gave up after that. I guess he knew what he was asking for.

If you're spotting someone you don't know, chances are they'll tell you what they prefer... If they don't....just ask!

I disagree, I think it's a matter of safety; however I hear what you are saying I actually prefer to be spotted at the elbow, I don't like people spotting my wrists but on saying that I won't spot someone I am training at their elbows because if it goes awry and an injury occurs our insurance here won't cover you.

That's a totally different matter Kerry...you're training them, they're putting their safety in your hands, no pun intended. At that point, sure you should spot them how YOU see fit! But, in day to day situations, most people prefer a spot at the elbows...

I don't really like when Im being spotted at the wrists, it makes me feel like the spotter is taking away too much. With this said, Im not going to complain if someone decides to spot me like that, as long as I have a spotter, right?

Assistance isn't really what I call a spot, but I tend to pull from the inside of the bar because people bench from the outside... when doing close grips its the same for me, because close grip benches should not be all that close together, shoulder width is good.

I dont get near the bar unless the person has failed/is failing, or they let me know they are going to need help. Otherwise I stay back. They dont need me tea bagging them nor the distraction. I dont like people moving around me really when I'm benching either.
