over fifty training
Another question that comes to mind, is if there is anything different I should be doing with weight training after age fifty.
I've been weight training off and on for a long time, sometimes seriously, but am wondering if there is any new theory on this subject. Thanks, Dave. |

I am not fifty yet, but I know now that I'm in my thirties I cannot work-out quite the same as I did when I was 20.
Recovery takes longer, injuries happen more frequently, etc. So, I try and be a bit more careful, use good form, never use a weight that I cannot get at least 4-6 reps with, etc. btw, welcome to the board! ![]() |

I haven't done allot of study on lifting over 50 but I do know that as we age our body produces less and less testosterone so your diet will become more important to help keep those levels up if you want to continue to build muscle.
If you just want to maintain what you've got and keep in good shape, then regular exercise along with a good clean diet is all you need. Welcome to the board!!! |

Well I've got less than two years until I'm 50, and except for
limiting shoulder work due to an injury that I incurred playing softball, I lift pretty much the same as I always have. I have no intentions of slowing down. Age is only a number. |

Agreed, if can keep going, do it!
We can usually do more than we think we can, you just have to listen to your body. Thanks for the replies, Dave. |

Besides being a little more careful now there is nothing I do any differently than when in my 20s.
The less muscle you have the less testosterone you will produce, and as we age we start to lose more and more muscle so if you start lifting and putting on muscle the testosterone will follow. I am 41 and I am in better shape than when I was 20, I am in better shape than most of the 20 year olds in the gym. Just keep at it. It takes time and patience, don't skip workouts make yourself do it everyday. |

I guess it's sort of a vicious circle, but it works both ways.
I'll just keep doing what I have been doing. Thanks for all the input, guys. Dave. |
