    Night training VS day training

I have to train during the day because I work a 2nd shift job,but I have way more energy at night, once in awhile I do get the chance to train at night when I do all my lifts are better, mind to muscle conection better, actually alot more focused. My sleeping pattern is good now 7 to 8 hours a night,I felt this way even before I started training I always have been a night person. Is there any reasoning behind this? or is it just "that" im a night person!!

I'm a night person as well. Some of the best workouts in my life have taken place at night. I just can't get into working out with the sun up. For some reason daylight makes me lethargic.

You might be a vampire if...

Sunlight/bright light in general hurts your eyes (but you can go out in it, even so)

You tend to be a night person by nature (because you may feel more comfortable and "alive" at this time)

I can never get a good work-out in the morning. I always train in the evening. I don't know how some guys can work-out at 5am before work

I used to swim six miles every morning, in the pool at 5:15am and back for another six at 3pm.

Now I'm in the weight room every morning at 7am.

I'm the same way. I usually get into my workouts more if I do them a bit later in the day. However, I have no choice but to go in the mornings now. So, I usually just make sure I do some warming up first to help wake me up and get me going. Not to mention, it's a good idea to warm-up anyway.

I think I read an article somewhere that your testosterone spikes in the morning and thats what causes the whole morning wood deal... I dont know how true this is so i was throwing it up for food for thought as perhaps an advantage for morning lifting

i prefer lifting in the afternoon -> night because i feel more flexible

actually the release of the male sex hormone occurs during the final stage of sleep so morning wood does = high test levels. this is also a good time to spike insulin to lower SHBG.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

I did that for years. I actually used to get up a 4:00 am and train until 6:00 then have my PWO shake. start cooking breakfast and eat that at 7 am. then go back to sleep until 9 then wake up shower to be at work by 10 am (I made my own hours).

i like the fact of working out in the afternoon/night because you can go to bed right after workouts and get rest right after workouts and let the muscles grow..

I'm my schedule allowed, and the places I need to go were all open at night, I'd be a vampire, but I have to get up at 6:30 - 7:00 am for school so yeah... I can never train within the first couple hours of getting up, I'm way to slow to do much of anything during that time. I usually workout around 2 - 4 pm when I have some food and energy in me.

There are advantages to working out in the morning, and there are advantages to working out at night. Just workout whenever is most convenient for you so that you stay with it.

I can't think of one advantage to working out a night especially from a physiological standpoint.

I used to do the same thing. I would wake up at 4, workout, come home and shower and eat, then leave for work by 7. It was a bitch to wake up that early, but I've always preferred working out first thing in the morning. Just depends on your own personal preferences.

The fact that your body will be releasing HGH shortly after your workout is definitely a good thing.

IMO , just do what is best for you ... I have trouble training early in the morning ... But I'll be fine to train as long as its after Noon-1pm ... I usally train in the afternoon or at night .

I'm used to working out in the evenings but after getting a new job I started hitting the gym at 6:00 am. Up at 4:30 am, eat some oats, hit the gym, back at 7:00 am then shower and go to work. Did that for 3 months. Decided to go back to evening workouts, so I did a 360 and now go up at 6:00 PM. Definitely like evening workouts better. Something just seems inherently wrong with doing heavy squats and deads at 6 AM. Never felt like I was loose and fluid.

B/t my 2 young kids and my shift work (getting off work at 3 or 4 am) I almost always workout first thing in the morning, right after I drop the kids off to daycare. Usually around 7am no later then 8am. My gym is absolutely packed in the evenings. My wife does the circuit and she goes at night b/c of her work schedule, but I never look foward to my week of dayshift b/c I don't like going to the gym at night. The free weigh section is swamped with people. In the morning no one is in there but the stay-at-home mom's and the retired people. I have the free weights almost all to myself.
