This might be a strange question, but I'm curious. Being very sore (and painful if used) for days in a muscle group means that I over did it, or got it right? What I mean is that if after I have worked my legs hard and they hurt for 3-4 days after, is that the most benificial for gaining mass, or did I over do it?
i STILL get major sore EVERY time i wo back and chest, but my legs are the worst. I train them on Sun, and they are literally sore til the next Saturday, right before i hafta train them again.
You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.
Yeah, my chest and back stay pumped and aching for pretty much four to five days after training them, remaining tight and unable to stretch that well. My legs get smashed too, they tend to be unable to take my body weight at times, lock out at the knee when i'm walking and I can actually stumble ( never fallen over though, lol) and they sometimes cramp when i'm asleep which is annoying and painful). All keep growing though.
My soarness is often delayed by a full day or even two and if I worked out intensely then they can be soar 2-3 days. Legs usually are the most noticeable since you stand on them. The soarness will subside after walking around during the day. The moment I wake up after sleeping a while they are soar to the max.
My DOMS usually set in after 2 days (especially on legs). One thing I do know from experience, if you are not eating properly and adequately the soreness can be prolonged for quite awhile.

same here...when i blast my legs they often stay sore till just before my next legs workout.
It's funny though...i start to get soreness within the next 24 hours....but it ALWAYS peaks....regardless of the body part, between 36 to 48 hours after the workout....always!

Ive been out of the gym for 6 weeks after getting a hernia surgically repaired in my groin, worst crap you can do in my oppinion and on a side note DONT get a hernia lol it sucks....... as for the soreness, now that im back in the gym fulltime i get hardcore sore for days after workouts no matter how much i eat but this is normal for me because my muscles are getting back in shape after the 6 weeks of no workouts, once i adapt again im usually only sore for about a day or two....

If you're new to resistance training, or you have been inactive lately, then soreness can be very intense and long lasting. This is especially true for your legs.
To reduce this soreness as much as possible, the best things you can do are get adequate sleep and proper nutrition. Stretching after your workout also helps quite a lot.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...
