    Planet Fitness

    $15/mo including tanning
    4 gyms in the area

2 of them are HUGE, the really close one sucks. It's worth the 10 minute drive to one of the larger ones.

I don't really care about the hotties, but is LA fitness a good gym?

they're making a brand new one near my house, but i thought it was more of a fitness center (hence the LA "fitness") than a hardcore gym...

im not sure myself, going to book a tour round the place soon so can let you know, but i think shutupntrain will be able to help you out more, i believe from what ive been told it is ment more for fitness people, but there is a section in there for hardcore gym users, but uk and america may be different

But is it worth the extra driving? The YMCA is tiny, but it gets the job done.

Shelton is nice if you go at lunch but after work forget it, way too busy for the size of the place. I sometimes play raquetball in Trumbull. The one in Orange is where I go most of the time.

Yeah.. They have dumbbells up to 80 pounds, only 2 benches, (+ 1 incline), no shoulder press bench, a HUGE lack of freeweights, and the 4 -6 little benches in the dumbbell area are ALWAYS occupied, for hours on end.

In gyms like trumbull, there could be hundreds of people there, and you'll still have no problem finding freeweights, or one of MANY machines to do what you need to do.

The county I live in is a HUGE area for gyms. There are 6 major ones just in my town. My new gym LA Fitness opened last year and cleaned house on the business. It's spotless and they have their staff in check. Always putting equipment back and such. They have all the old style equipment plus all the freemotion stuff which gives you so many options. Where I live on the Jersey shore, we are the capital of juiced up dudes and fitness queens. I think location depends more on what a crowd is like than just the place itself. Funny thing is that the whole crowd is young (18-35) and more guys but lots of girls. A lot of serious work out people without too many people that think they are hot shit. I love it. Great cardio area, busy basketball court, sweet locker rooms and nice staff. Best gym I've seen in a while. It's only 34.99 a month and no contract. I paid a one time start up fee of $200 or so.

Orange is nicer than Trumbull. With the exception of the locker room. Thugs keep stealing shit out of the lockers, even with locks on them, they just rip the door off the hinges.
More organized and bigger than when it was World. They remodeled a little bit and did a nice job. Lots of cardio and free weights. Only thing i can complain about is the lockers and with cheap prices comes high schoolers (who arent serious about lifting) and some ghetto trash, there to hang out and do chest every single day.

I have a membership to Bally's (it was my first gym) that i pay like 7/month for, but the gym where i really train is this shithole dirty ass, water dropping from the ceiling dungeon called Dolphin Fitness, its like 300/year.

I only go to the bally's for cardio or some simple stuff as there are too many posers there, guys hittin on chicks and chicks just standing around waiting for you to hit on them. everyone is wearing freakin diesel jeans and has their hair spiked up, that place makes me sick to my stomach gyms are not supposed to smell of cologne. My other gym is the complete opposite, and thats where the real work happens i love that place and i can't picture a better gym to lift at.

shutupntra1n is that LA Fitness in North Brunswick ?
The new gym I am looking at looks nice like LA Fitness but does not have a pool.

I went to a Bally's and liked the gym only because it had a shitload of cardio equipment. But it seemed to me more like a pickup joint then a gym. I could not focus and could not shutup and train lol.
