    HIIT Cardio Rocks!

    I did HIIT cardio for the first time today. I used the elliptical machine. My cardio consisted of a 5 min warm up and then 30 sec intervals of max intensity (95 RPM) and 30 sec intervals of lower intensity (50 RPM). I was able to keep this up for 15 min (20 min with warm up). Felt like I was going to throw up b/c of the intensity. Going to try to work up to 20 min.

    Just wanted to share. Sure gave a kick start to my cardio session.

    High Intensity Interval Training Glad 2 hear your elliptical is rockin you out! My Elliptical is a heavy Cylinder Block; i step on and off for cardio/strength building. It's what i call a poor mans elliptical and works great!

    For me, HIIT makes cardio sessions go quicker...which is always a good thing for someone who does not enjoy it.

    What are some examples of HIIT?

    Are specific intervals supposed to be used...? What's the benefit over "regular" cardio?

    I'm really not all that familiar with it...any info is appreciated.

    HIIT is when you do cardio at your max intensity for about 30-60 seconds then you do low intensity for about the same time. It's just faster than regular cardio. You can do it on any cardio.

    So would interval training where you walk at a very high degree of incline for 2 minutes, then level it off for a minute, be a form of HIIT?

    A lot of people use different variations of HIIT. Benefits of HIIT over regular cardio is that workouts are shorter and HIIT is supposed to drop the fat quicker.

    When I do HIIT, I warmup, then sprint for about 15 seconds, jog 45 seconds, repeat until I'm beat (usually after 6 sprints), then cooldown. Sometimes I will extend the jogging time in order to do more sprints.. I don't know if this is necessarily cheating. Anyway, I am curious as to how everyone else does their HIIT as well.

    I do something that's almost similar. I set the treadmill at one speed (an extremely fast walk or a medium paced jog) and I set a goal time. For the entire time, I just keep moving one way or the other. If my calves get exhausted from walking that fast, I start jogging; if that tires me out, I start walking. It's actually kind of fun because you can do it any way you want as long as you keep moving (I'm sure others will go faster, but I figured I'd try it one day and I liked it).

    apparently intervals of 10/10...burn 3 times more fat than intervals of around 24/30

    i do my cardio very similar to this, but 1:30min jogs and 30sec sprints, after about 5 sprints (11-12mins) i'm outta there!

    Ive read a few articles suggesting that sprinting can be anaerobic in nature and may help to increase lower body strength.
