Ab exercises for maximum weight loss?

Hey guys. I've been working hard in the gym but I've been neglecting my abs. I see people do all different sorts of exercises but I don't know which are the best. Does anyone know a good routine for abs and how many times they should be done a week.

I do decline twisting crunches with a ball, ab curl machine, and roman chair leg raises. 3 times a week. If you want to see you abs then a good routine is Diet X 7 days a week.

there is no ab exercises that causes weight loss, you can not spot reduce
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Do cardio, and if you have strong abs, they'll show. But, remember, it's mostly in your DIET.

Jesus, from the way a lot of people respond in here, it seems like there's no point in lifting weights at all since "it's all in the diet." I used to have a friend who would get on me when I worked abs, cause he's like "dude, what's the point, until you slim down you won't be able to see them anyways", as if it's a sin to work your abs until you're down to 8% bodyfat or something.

You could slim down all you want, but if you don't work your abs ever, there won't be much to show. Of course 90% of it is diet (if you've got body fat, your abs won't show, plain and simple) but working them will make them that much more impressive when you DO diet down.

Why is it that people go off on the diet rant whenever abs are questioned?

That wasn't directed at any one person, -- I've read 4 threads today on 3 different boards today where people immediately shout *DIET* when someone asks about a good ab workout.

it depends on how thick your abs are, some people may see their abs when they are at 11% some need more work because their abs are not developed thick at all////////////////////

this thread was about "Ab exercises for maximum weight loss?" looks like this person doesnt understand the difference between building muscle & loosing weight. some people need to be taught the importance of both.

Like I said, it's in the diet and if you have strong abs, they'll show. That wasn't a rag as to say don't do abs, just that an ab exercise isn't the best way to burn calories to lose weight.

Its not a sin to do core work, you just need to know why you are doing it. Doing thousands of situps will not get you an eight pack, but it might save your back on that heavy set of squats.

As previously stated, you cannot spot reduce. You have to lose overall body fat to make your rectus abdominus visible.

However, increasing the muscle mass of your abs will also assist in giving them more definition, even at slightly higher body fat percentages. Situps are the biggest staple in my ab routine. Here is a good article on ab training I came across recently:
