    Question Deadlift questions

I'm just starting to incorporate deadlifts into my routine. To me they seem very similar to standard squats. Do they work different muscle groups? It just seems like it's basically a squat from a position where thighs are below parallel. Am I missing something? I'm pretty sure my technique is correct. Thanks.

In a squat your back stays in relatively the same position more or less. With a deadlift you are bending your back to lower the weight and then standing up straight. It does work the hams, and glutes, but also hits the back. I feel that of all the exercises for strength and size the deadlift is the best. I love the feeling I get. I only do 5 sets at 225 but I feel it every where.

So yes, they do hit alot of the same muscles but Squats do hit the legs more and Deads hit the back more.
This is why its not the best idea to do Squats and Deads the same week, cause they do use alot of the same muscles.
They are probably two of the only exercises to hit this many muscles to.
    Cool

Go check this out to make sure you're doing them right. Also.. start with a light weight and work your way up... If done wrong they really mess you up...

May I add that deadlifts in a power rack, with the pins set at just below knee height, will eliminate much of the recruitment of the quads, and increase the work performed by the back.
