    Lats and pulldowns

    Hey all,
Another question. I do Lat pulldowns with a longbar and cable. What is the benefit to using something like a chinning bar (see the attachment)
    Thanks

and different grip. I like using the V attatchment.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

you will change the emphasis to more middle back than lats
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Just curious if this is accurate. With pull-ups, you can only "lift" a limited amount of weight (your own bodyweight). With Lat Pulldowns, you can continue to increase weight (or decrease if you'd like). I think this is similar to the "pushups versus bench press" argument, in that pushups cannot substitute the bench press (I think I read somewhere that one pushup is equivlilent to "benching" or pushing up 60% of your bodyweight per pushup/rep). Wouldn't this technically be LESS beneficial for back workouts? Unless you are referring to benefits other than for back muscles. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Good point. I saw a guy in my gym yesterday doing pullups. Every set he would put a DB in his lifting belt. He keep upping the DB weights every set. I'm not sure what weight he eventually stopped at, but he was up to 50lb DB last I looked. Looked extremely awkward to me, but he didn't seem to have much trouble with it.
