    working chest

I was reading the What's your chest routine post last night and came to the conclusion that I am doing way to many sets for each bodypart. I figured up today that I do 21 to 24 set for my chest. By reading the posts and looking at other member's online journal I see now that I am overtraining. My question is I went into the gym today and did three sets of incline bb bench, and decline bb bench, then I did 3 sets of db flat bench. I really did not feel like I got a Good work out. Is this because I am used to doing 21 sets and I need time to adjust?

I usally get my workout done in a hour. I go in there and lift and towards the end of my workout I get tired and feel really good. When I did three sets I felt like I should not have went at all.

I am new here at this site and I'd like to help you but we need more information. How many reps are you doing? are you doing to failure? How much time are you resting between sets? If your goal is to pack on mass keep the reps low 4 to 8 and pack on the weight till its impossible to do the full rep count without a spot. Hope this helps and give some more info and I'm sure the help will keep coming in!

I am a dumb ass but what do you mean by step up intensity? I go to failure now with only 60 sec rests between sets. I also only do about six to eight reps. I do not have a spotter so I am affraid to go to heavy but I go heavy enough to only do 6 to 8 reps.

that's good, if you want you can even do like 12 sets. That's high volume but if you feel like you must, i don't see what's wrong with it.

I did nine set today and did all nine sets to failure and 60 sec rest in between.
I just feel like I never got a good pump and I never even broke a sweat.

pump doesn't matter... and if you truely did it to failure and didn't break a sweat, don't worry about it.

So the reason my chest may be laging in getting bigger is because I have been overtraining it? All my other bodyparts are getting stronger just my chest is laging.

24 sets is WAY too much. If you want the good "pump" in ur chest, add 3 sets of flies to the routine to give you 12 sets and a total chest workout. Also, don't forget to switch up the lifts you do. If you keep doing the same exercises your body will adjust and you wont get as much out of it. But, yes your chest isn't growing because it is getting worked way too hard. Overtraining can actually lead to a decrease in muscle mass so be careful. just putting in my 2 cents. Keep training hard.

I switch my routine every week but I now know I do way to much. Is nine sets good for every bodypart?

I always do 12 sets total. I do 9 sets of heavy BB or DB presses, and then I smash them in the last 3 sets with flys or cables (my favorite). I am always sore after the 12 set workout.

I am going to reduce to sets I am doing. I think I will be better off. I will just have to turn up the intensity to keep the bf coming off.
