    Abs?

My abs are my #1 problem area. It seems like unless I get REALLY thin, the abs still have fat over it. I'm losing body fat all over, but not the abs. Is it because I'm not doing any ab work? The reason I don't work abs is because they stick out a bit as it is (just my body shape) and I don't want to build any additional muscle in that area.
Am I getting it all wrong? I know you can't sport reduce or "tone" a soecific area...it's all the matter of building muscle and losing fat. How do I get rid of the abdominal fat without getting TOO skinny?

    Thanks

Tell me if i'm wrong? This is what i have heard more than once? ....That Fat is Fat ...where it goes....no body knows? People R different...it goes in different places. But 2 lose Fat anywhere, anytime, ...even the AB place....it just takes More Cardio till it's ALL gone?

Have i heard this correctly? In the mean time...i just keep moving!!

your right about not being able to spot reduce, but you can also manipulate your diet and/or take supp's or other 'aids' to drop fat.

Katia, if your stomach stills protrudes a little that might be because of VAT (visceral adipose tissue). that is basically the fat around your organs, instead of under your skin from what i have read. Avant labs puts out a supplement called Absolved that they claim helps with VAT. Some give good feedback, you could check it out for yourself and see if it works (its a cream that you rub on your problem region a couple of times a day).

do HIIT 20 mins, 3-5 times a week. Do HIIT properly though. Otherwise it wotn work.

Are you lifting? Doing so raises your metabolism and you certainly wont become big and bulky if you lift heavy weights as long as you are in a calorie deficit.

Ofcoarse im assuming you have a good diet.

How about Flax Seed, have you tried it? If you do not have enough Omega-3 Fatty Acids in your body, it could be more than benifitial to take some. It will raise your metabolism assuming you dont have these EFAs and mabye help you shed some easy weight.

Mabye try to building some muscle in your stomach by building the obliques and abdominal muscles. So that the muscle will come to you instead of you digging for the muscle.

Well, i can say this from experience. It was a while ago...about 5 years ago...my tummy needed some firming, so i did basic tummy crunches and worked on obliques (side crunches) ...and in 2 months time I definitely had a nice 4 pack going on!!! So who knows? Maybe ur ready 2 hit the Ab work? I have a good size rib cage 2...(but in my Opn.) that just means we R Females with a Physique who R meant 2 build. So get 2 the Ab work girlfriend!!!

What Yan mentions about VAT might be the possible issue. I've never tried Absolved, but have heard positive things about it.

Also, just a general rule of thumb regarding fat loss, from what I've heard/read since I've been into bb and training (and someone more knowledgeable please correct me if I'm wrong): fat loss is most noticeable in reverse order from where it was gained... in other words, you notice it gone first from the last place you put it on (hands, face, etc.) and the last, stubborn, fat from the FIRST place you put it on (being a woman, that would be hips, lower abdominal area, thighs, etc.).

also, in regard to the sticking out, the rectus abdominus is not a flat muscle. In order to allow for better force absorbtion it is shaped with a slight outward protrusion, much like the lordodic curve of the spine goes in. Some have more of a protrusion than others. Most of the time, those with flat looking stomachs are sucking it in. Even at 5% BF, if I don't stand upright and control my abs, they will stick out a bit. Or if I take a deep breathe, or slouch a little. It is there because it is supposed to be there.

    simple. use non-weighted abs exercises.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Thanks guys that is a lot of helpful info!
P-funk.. what you said is making things a lot more clear for me.

I don't take flaxseed oil, but I do take fish oil. Is that good enough or should I add sme flaseed oil too?

I did some ab work today. Crunches and bicicles. 3 sets of 20 each. Although I'm not sure if that is enough, or too much..etc.
What's a good ab work routien to start with?

i do realize it is only "Opinion" and does not become "Fact" until Credibility is earned? Therefore, i set out in search of a Fitness Professional who had answers regarding FAT in the "Rectus Abdominus Muscle" (Abs), as mentioned by P-funk.

He does not believe in "Spot reducing" and believes that is only a myth?

He believes there are 3 ways in which 2 lose fat & Gain Muscle in those troubled areas....

    1. Eat smaller meals several times a day
    2. Get Cardio Excercise that raises your heart level 3x per wk.
    3. Train your muscles with weights 2 or 3x per wk.

This is just one Professional "School of thought". Thanks 4 the opportunity 2 set out on the Fat Ab Mission? ...i learned from it as well. LOL.
