    Question overworking?

    Im not sure if this is even the right section for this question but here goes:

    Ive been training for about 8 months or so, and maybe training as i should for about 2 months, done the reading required to make sure i dont overtrain, etc, i was wondering, tho, say i was to continue a 3 day workout sched, where im sore 70% of the time(depending on the cycle and intensity) and work in a warehouse, mon to fri for 8 hrs, while sore. Would liftiing as much as 100lbs(rare) every day result in setbacks or overwork my muscles in any way(lifting uses much of the body). In other words, would it get in the way of maximum growth of my muscles?

    it would probably fuck yo up a little bit. Remember your warehouse job does not mean that you are "working out" you muscles like you would in the gym. But if you do that kind of job i would probably do something low key at the gym, like slow motion reps.

    i realize the warehouse job is not a "workout", thats why i was wondering weather or not i can maintain the intensity in the gym and the job, and get away with it with very minimal negative impact.

    Dont worry about it. Make sure you eat a lot of food those so your muscles have the energy they need to have all through the day. Theres nothing really that you can do about it, and I hightly dought its going to actually set you back.

    Ok, this is just my opinion. I think the warehouse job will make it hard for you to eat as much as you should and as good as you should.. I did heavy manual labor this past summer (roofing and landscaping) for 8-10 hours a day 4-6 days a week and it sure fucked me up (and this is without lifting at all during the time I worked, way too dead for it later). I didn't eat much or well (breakfast on my own which was usually just oatmeal; and lunch, usually fast food; dinner was whatever was around the house).

    It was a very bad move on my part.. I went from 175 pounds with not much fat all the way down to 150 (no joke). I still regret it very much to this day (my friends who considered me built last year bust my balls about it and call me "160!"). I'm currently cutting the weight (fat) I gained since, then I'm gaining all the muscle back and then some.

    Being sore 70% of the time.. you're not giving your muscles time to recover, plus lifting boxes all day probably is not ideal for gaining muscle. I personally would sit down and think about whether or not the pay is worth the work and being busted up 70% of the time. In high school I almost worked a warehouse job but my parents insisted that I did not, and I am glad I hadn't since I probably would have been malnutritioned half the time.

    I guess it just depends on whether or not you will have sufficient break time to eat healthy, but I definately think the warehouse job will make it harder for you to get bigger.

    the onl;y thing you have to worry about is eating right. i work a warehouse job for about 9-10 hours a day, get home, eat a meal, then go and do my workout if its a day for it. and im gaining lbm. and my job entails me to not only do heavy lifting but keep doing it at a fast pace the entire time. so if you are worried about the job interfereing with exercise, just eat appropriately. i have a great lunch, and bring something for a 10 am meal as well, and i go every day with much more energy than my co-workers who eat mcdonalds and such every day, and get home and have plenty more to workout. they all think im on crack and drink energy drinks all day long when they arent looking lol.

    I worked in a steel mill for a year and a half right after college and it never had any adverse effects on my lifting. I worked on a steel shear and if was by no means a "light" workout. I was lifting Mon, Wed, Fri and running Tues, Thur, Sat. If anything, I wish I would've pushed myself harder then, I'd probably be benching 700 now.

    I guess the only thing I could add to whats already been said is this: The idea of bodybuilding of any sort is to work the muscle, feed the muscle and then let it rest/recuperate before working it again. While your "day job" may not HURT you, it isnt helping you rest your muscles either. Obviously you cant just quit working, so if your still sore each time you lift why not put an extra day of rest somewhere. What Im saying is that RE-working sore muscles over and over again wont get you as far as when those same muscles are sufficiently recuperated. If your working the same muscle group every 3 days now (for example) try stretching it to every 4 days so they can rest a bit more.
