Anyone else sort of caught between the 2 lifestyles?
How is it going for ya?

Note to self: Eat More, Train Hard, and Eat More!

I'm stuck between the two. I just started lifting again about 3-4 weeks ago. I'm doing really well with my eating and workouts. The weekends just kill me. I quit smoking during the week. Now I only smoke when I drink which is still horrible. I dont' drink at all during the week. Friday's I usually play some texas holdem which means drinking and smoking. Saturday's I usually go to a bar which includes the same. I try to limit my drinking.
they dont mix at ALL. Choose one... The occassional night out with a few drinks in moderation is one thing... to go out and get wasted and pollute your body, then deal with a hangover and all the bad it does to you...is completely counter-productive. Just my .02

I have to agree,U gotta choose. its kinda like wanting to either bulk or cut!!lol U can try to do both at the same time, but Ull end up just going 'round in circles!
When I consider all the hard work that I put into my diet and workouts, the thought of partying, not sleeping and getting plastered quickly evades my mind...Its counter productive...U can eat all the protein in the world and train ur ass off, but if u ingest shitloads of alcohol on a regular basis, ure taking one step forward and two steps back with dehydration, f'ed up protein synthesis and loads of stress on the liver...And in ur case, lungs!
just MHO!

I spend quite a bit of time away from the clubs b/c of a hectic schedule and my bf and I don't stay out til all hours when he is in competition mode. When that's not the case I love getting dressed to the nine and going out to some of the hottest clubs with great music. I usually still don't drink out of choice. This is the extent of my party life and at max it would be one night a week during his off season time. Although some may disagree you can have a great time without getting loaded. Try it and you'll be amazed how great you feel the next day. It's not for everyone but I can't stand seeing the BB's from the gym blasted and smoking away all weekend in the bar![]()
I get smashed, have a good time, and work out. I do it alot less now, but they can mesh if you have the willpower to go to the gym with a hangover. I don't go to clubs, though, they annoy me. I'd rather go to a bar and hear a band than go to a club with 300 X'ed out crackheads.
As long as you can keep the partying down to the weekend you should be fine.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

im in same boat as u man, i had to stop drinking if i wanted any progress with cutting, b4 it was a 3 or 4 night a week deal, it didnt bother me much when i was gaining size but now that ive lost the weight round most of my body i still have a semi- spare tire round the gut. i wish i had controled it earlier than now, dehydration is deff a big problem for gain muscle, i try to drink water all night when im done drinking just to minamize the loss. but idk if im gona stay outa the party game for much longer once i lose the tire
Could u please rewrite your last sentence please and thank you. Its just the idk thing thats throwing me off.Originally Posted by kicka19
There's nothing wrong with partying as long as you don't get wasted all the time. Maybe every once in a while it's alright. Most of the time when I go out, I have a few drinks, but I don't get drunk. Contrary to what they say, it's sometimes kinda cool wen you're the only sober person in a room fool of drunk people.
You can mack on the drunken bitches much better when you yourself are not wasted.
from what i understand dehydration is what stops or slow protein synthesis, alcohol makes you dehydrated, would drinking water while out keep you from getting dehydrated?
i LOVE to go out and party
this is now, i can't change tommrrowif i can't change today
U should always chug LOADS of H2O while u drink alcohol...a cup of water for every drink...When U cant remember to have water between drinks, ur drunk enough!!lol

This is so very true. Especially if you are not drinking at all at a college party. Girls are like wow you are probably the only guy I will meet tonight that doesnt reak of booze.Originally Posted by Metman07
To add to the partying and lifting thing; as I am getting older (I am 20 so its still illegal for me to drink but thats besides the point) I am becoming less and less interested in drinking. I am finding that my body is far more important to me than getting drunk. I am starting to realize that drinking is just a way to change the way the world is percieved for a brief time period. Sure you get that liquid confidence that might help you go over and talk to the fine hunnie in the corner, but the real trick is to learn to do that with out the alcohol. I mean drinking doesnt make you look more attractive it makes the other person more attractive, so hopefully that girl in the corner is drinking and she will talk to your sorry ass, HA.
The morning has arrived after a night of drinking and most likely if anything has changed it is negative; DUI, injuries, lost friendships, STD's, and god for bid getting that girl in the corner pregnant haha.
Not to mention after a night of drinking I feel like a soft marshmellow.
Let's face it...u don't really see 2 many "Physically fit" Buff guys and/or gals out at the Bar scene? My Big O--pinion...If a Physically Fit Buff (person) wants 2 earn "Credibility" and "Respect" by teaching and helping others in the Fitness World...then best 2 Find a (fit) medium & show control?

Well yeah but that goes without saying that generally people in bars arent into lifting at all and therefore there progress is not limited by their bad habits but rather their lack of movement.Originally Posted by Missfit4all

Things have changed lately, only drink once a month or so...but I still make great gains as well

I also LOVE to go out and party.... 19 and going to Temple University, partying is alot of fun.. My only advantage is that I've been straight edge (meaning, no alcohol no drugs no tobacco) for over four years now. It's a great lifestyle to have and to be working out. I love keeping myself feeling responsible.
Not that I drank a lot to begin with, but when I started bodybuilding I cut out all alcohol. Mind you I still go out with my b/f dancing twice a week. But neither of us drink so it cuts down on cost. Dancing is fun enough for me, so I don't need booze to heighten the experience. And if I want to be "social" I'll drink diet pepsi.

IMO, bodybuilding takes great deal of discipline. Its all about your goals and how serious you are about them.
