    Really bad calluses

Hi, everyone. I've been lifting for a few months. I'd rather ask about a recurring issue i've been having. I may grip the weight to hard, under 3 fingers i have these horrible calluses. They are actually kind of painful when i grip heavy weights. What should I do? Should i start wearing gloves or do something else? Thanks.

Actually.. cut them off with some nail clippers, and use a pumice(sp) stone and grind/file them smooth.

yeah you cant really help it, at first i was worried about it doing damaged to my hands but as i got used to lifting more and doing a proper split i found my hands got generally tougher skin around that area and i hold the dumbels and barbels better, you can wear gloves i just generally picked of the hard skin and and eventually i stoped noticing calluses developing

To relieve the excessive pressure that leads to callus formation, weight should be redistributed equally with the use of an light gloves.

Gloves make them worse, at least mine, I shave them down in the shower<yes with a razor blade. I honestly don't care that I have "man" hands as I am a man, the only reason I shave them down is to keep them from ripping and spilling blood all over.

Use em if you need them.. I used to do masonry and tote cement blocks. My hands got so rough I could snag my GF panty hose.

    Not good.

I use a DA sander to sand them off with 80 grit. it doesn't hurt

Just sand them down. Your hands will toughen up in time. Don't wear gloves. Gloves are for women.

Try gripping the bar more in the hooks of your fingers than in your palm so you aren't pressing into the soft tissue of your distal palm.

As far as callouses go, they get thicker and less painful the more you grip. Mine never hurt anymore. You have to develop that local epidermal adaptation to toughen your hands. Callouses are your friends.
