    Pre-Contest Travel

    Hey all-

I'm leaving tomorrow to cover a major sporting event (it's my job), but I'm stuck in a hotel with no gym. Normally I come up with a good workout using water jugs, desk chairs and closet bars, but this time is different. This time, I'm three weeks out from contest. Anyone have suggestions on what I should do? The weather is predicting storms so running outside for cardio probably isn't possible. I have 7-8 pounds to lose in three weeks, I can't let this trip stop me!

Jumping jacks, push-ups, Sissy squats. Those are a few things you can do without weights or treadmills.

Find a local gym, and tell them your situation. They will usually have 'pitty' and give you a temp membership for cheap.

Plyometrics. Mass push-ups, crunches. Those are what I do when I can't hit the gym and need a workout.

This is a downtown area where only a University is, and I've already checked with them--they have a "NO EXCEPTION" policy to visitors/guests. You have a student ID and can use the facility, or you don't and can't. Period. And I won't have a car, so heading uptown to find a gym isn't possible.

Shadowboxing works pretty well for cardio. Do it pretty intense and you start to feel it. Maybe get dyna bands, it is sort of sissy in the bb sense but it will help slow down anything you might loose, thats what i did when my gym was closed for two weeks

come up to some college kid and scare the crap out of him and take his ID, then go workout. or come up to one of them and ask to buy one, explain the situation and give em the cost of replacing the ID plus a couple extra bucks (college kids are poor, they'll jump at money). or use public transportation and go uptown to lift, most gyms will let you pay like 5-10bucks to workout for the day, just explain your situation.

This is a good idea as well. If you're cool most non-tightasses will do this, and they're not picky about pictures at the college RECs around here. Typical cost is $20 for a replacement ID... I say if you find someone cool enough, maybe just walk into a dorm and try door to door, and explain your situation let them have the cost of replacement ID just to borrow their ID as collateral... then when you give it back they'll give your $ back. I did this with my college ID for football games (you need a student ID to use student tickets) at two different colleges and borrowing student IDs for eating or REC is pretty common in my opinion. Depends on whether or not they need it to eat (meal plan), though. Just another suggestion. But would be nice if you knew someone on the campus who you could just borrow the ID from.
