YOU WILL NEVER REACH YOUR OPTIMUM LEVEL IF YOU SMOKE. PERIOD.
Just do what i did a long time ago, and call yourself a pussy for being addicted to a dried plant that makes you smell bad, costs alot, and kills you. Just remember, its week and pathetic (not takin a personal shot at you man, but you know what I mean). I smoked for 7 years and it took about a week of sweaty sheets, rage fits and mental anquish to quit. Its hard as hell to quit, but possible. You'll be so very very very glad after about 2 months of bein clean, cause I felt like I was comin off heroine. It will make you feel strong that you did, not only physically, but I my progress became exponential after I dropped that shit, I forgot how much oxygen kicked ass.

The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender." ~Vince Lombardi
Thanks guys for the advice, as of now i will no longer bring smokes to work with me, or smoke in the car. I will just smoke at night on the computer for a few weeks, then completly cut it out. I know some people can drop it at once but i have alot of problems at home and it is hard but i will stop, i will make it my new goal(other then getting big and ripped hehe) and will defintily try to stop, thanks again.

Hey man I know how you feel. I quit smoking and have not had a smoke in 26 days. I love to smoke but I also love to hit the weights so I give smoking up. I have smoked for 11 years and I still have cravings right now but it will get better. Just take it a day at a time. Make sure when you quit to still eat clean and not eat junk. I eat carrots and sugar free candy to kill cravings. Hang in there and you can do it.

I don't smoke at all during the week but once I have a beer on the weekend, I gotta have a smoke. I smoke about a pack a week.
now all im waiting for is someone to say " i smoke and im just fine " and then we can start a fight over smoking all over again like in the other smoking threads...smoking is just plain stupid and nasty, anyone who say "i cant quit" should killthemselfes, i cant quit excuses are for pussy's and anyone who says smoking is alright is stupid too...................i know, i quit smoking a looong time ago..
Horray for Tough Old Man. After smoking for over 35 years, I quit a week ago today, April 1st. Haven't even had a puff. God loves me. It's a tough thing to do and I fight it all day long. I'll give you a little help if i can. I found when the urge comes on it only last about 2 min's. If you can find something to do for just those two min's you have it beat for another couple of hrs. Just fight it.
I went to a bodybuilding competition this morning, and at intermission, about half the competitors (figure, fitness and bodybuilders) were outside puffing.
Ms. O...HERE I COME! (6 years...?)

I've been there and done that, twice. Right now I'm smoke free, but it ain't like giving up cheese cake, let me tell you.

Anyone care to come up with a list of "emotionally weak smokers" and their accomplishments? Or should I write the book?Originally Posted by vegman
Well, I am going to quit smoking now. Only problem is that now I am depressed, emotionally/mentally weak, loser that smokes so I may have to just off myself, due to the low self esteem.
Thanks for the help guys.

It doesn't matter who's smoked or what they've done. Smoking will not allow you to reach your maximum potential. There is no questioning that it affects you negatively in several ways, and one of these ways is to negatively impact your physical performance. No one said it was easy to quit smoking, just that you're mentally weak if you can't. I agree. I also think that it takes quite an unwise person to take it up in the first place. What would make you want to try something that kills you, makes you smell, decays your body from the inside out, and costs a lot of money? What gave you the sudden urge to put a burning stick in your mouth in the first place? I don't know the answer to these questions. Perhaps sj or njc can englighten me.
It doesn't sound like you really want to quit at this point tommy... not when you are using phrases like 'im just too hooked on smoking' and 'i can try to cut down' and 'i can't stop smoking completly', I'm not knocking ya, quitting 'anything' isn't easy.Originally Posted by tommyboy11
It just sounds like you are hoping someone will say yes, you can get crazy big and still be a smoker, smoking is the shits for many reasons... you know them all already, there isn't a single good reason to smoke so why not just quit... don't allow yourself an out - just do it!
I quit after being a smoker for 13 years and no, it wasn't easy but I am so glad I did it.
Good luck!![]()
You didn't know most people start smoking when they very young and not thinking straight? How many "wise" things do you know that your average 13 year old does, compared to the number of silly things. Your going to judge how wise I am because of a mistake I made in the eighth grade? You must be a wise man yourself (or a wise assOriginally Posted by Squaggleboggin

I also smoke, it sucks and I do get tired at the gym. I have not tried to quit yet
and I have been doing it for over 10yrs and i'm 22. Pretty bad huh, i know. Maybe you
guys that have quit in the past could give us some advice and maybe some supps that
worked for ya'll instead of calling us weak and things like that. It effects my fighting
as well. So I really could use the help. The only time I ever quit was in Boot Camp
and that was like for 2months. Help us if you could

1. go cold turkey, none of this cut down bs, been there, it doesn't work, like Nike says "just do it"Originally Posted by joesmooth20
2. start stopping in the morning, if you start the day with a smoke, don't quit that day.
3. Don't wait for a "good" time in your life, there's NEVER a good time for quitting, you just gotta bite the bullet, besides why wait for everything in your life to be perfect ? then fuk it up by going through withdrawl? do it now and get it out of the way.
4. Just like the alky's take it one day at a time, don't worry about how you'll make for a week, a month, a year, just worry about making it through that DAY, then before you know it the days build up.
5. It ain't gonna get easier the longer you wait.
6. One you quit don't ever fuk it up by saying "well, I'll just get a pack for tonight's ...whatever.

I smoke about twice a month when I treat myself to a Chilled Double shot of Absolute Vodka and a diet coke chaser.
Well i would. sure i still haven't smoked or taken a puff since 4/1/05. But after 35 yrs i go to bed and stay awake a lot of the nights because i want a cig. For you that don't know it is claimed the nicotine is the most additive drug known. Now mental i'm not sure of that. I guess it's easy for someone who doesn't smoke or smoke when they were a kid and said I STOPPED. You stopped eating babyfood to, so fucking what!Originally Posted by musclepump

well I recently made it a whopping 11days! The last 2 days my wife stayed at her mothers house cause she couldn't take my attitude anymore. I haven't gotten more than 5 hrs sleep a night, still feel sick to my stomach, and I just bought stock in brachs candy.....but before I lose my wife, job and my mind I'm saying fuck it, I'M EMOTIONALY WEAK. All of which I'm on the verge of and are more important to me than quitting. I am kind of curious how much smoking works against weight lifting progress though, I've made some decent gains in size and strength since I've started lifting (after digging up an old journal), I wonder how much more I would have gotten strength/mass wise if I never smoked being I'm pretty happy with the way I sit now....

First and foremost, smoking robs your body of oxygen.
I was wondering when you guys would get pissed about my "emotionally weak" post. I'm saying that you need to be emotionally strong to quit.
Note to self: Eat More, Train Hard, and Eat More!
Ok this goes back to the notion of looking good on the outside, but looking like shit on the inside. Do i advise you to quit? - YES. Will it have a significant effect on growing muscle? - NO. Oh and everyone is different, for instance I work with this guy who smoked since he was 16. He's 32 now and he quit about 2 years ago - cold turkey. People can even smoke around him and he doesn't even notice anymore. One thing that helped him was after he ate a meal, he would have an organge or something instead of a cigarette. - Some people are just stronger than others.![]()
I'm coming in the gym, i'm coming at home, i'm coming in front of 25,000 people...it's fantastic!
