I lifted all through high school when I played football but, i stopped at graduation. Now I'm thirty and feeling fat. When I received a comment about my "Love handles" from a friend, I decided it was time to start lifting again. Now I do maining dumbell work and boy can see the results.

its funny how a lot of new lifters start because a want to attract opposite sex..then they find out ti does nothing for the personallity or ability to talk.

But if you already have good personality and conversation skills it does boost your chances of a first encounter or even a nice glance

Oh No

Bought a new Cannondale Jekyll in August 2000. Found out how out of shape I had gotten. Started lifting again....lost 40 lbs in 4 months and like Scotty said...It's a way of life now. Couldn't imagine a week not lifting!

I started working out with the goal of getting stronger and hopefully avoiding any more serious injuries as a result of my main activity, mountain biking. My bro told me "you wear all that armor and protection, what you should do is put on some muscle, MUSCLE is the best protection you can wear."

That was WHY I started, but now that I've been working out regularly I think I'm hooked on that post workout buzz I get. I can get myself into a groove when I'm working out or running and I don't seem to get tired or bonk. My new goal is to try and maintain my basic "size" and get the muscle I DO have very toned, then concentrate on growing until I 'm satisfied.
My body has changed dramatically of late and I love the way I'm looking these days. Women I date notice and that's a plus too. While my friends grow older and softer, I get leaner and stronger.

I started Pumping Iron at 14 years old, I lived on a Air Force Base and not much else to do to break the boredom, but go to the local base Gym.

Once I entered High School sports amount other things changed my motivations.

I looked around one day and noticed that years of poor eating habits and no excercise had turned me into a fat slob who couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing. That was five years ago, and I've been lifting ever since (with time out for a couple of injuries).

Lift heavy. Eat well. Rest. Repeat as necessary.

My mother made a comment a couple of months ago about how I have the same little pot belly as my dad and that I will always have it. That gave me great motivation to get off my butt and start training. I've lost 20lbs and starting to fill out a little, now I can't stop.

I guess my story is a pretty common one. I was always the skinny small kid in junior high and high school freshman years. The summer after my freshman year in high school I tried out for the football team and fell in love with being in shape...oh and being noticed by the opposite sex helped a little.

Feel Better/ Look Better

I have fought with weight gain since I got out of High School. Alot of lessons learned, most the hard way. Bottom line, hard work and common sense.
