To strengthen the lower back you need to do deadlifts. This is number one. Other good movements include back extensions, stiff deadlifts, and good mornings. When training back, when you do bent over rows and t -bar rows, your lower back will work as a stabilizer. The lower back comes into play in many other compound exercises as well. This is why you must keep it strong and healthy!

All very well and good, but please don't overtrain the lower back it causes so many problems like muscle cramps, crushed vertabrae and muscle spasms oh i nearly forgot i can shorten the tendons/muscles very easily.

    Take care!
The harder you try the tougher you will be!

Good heavy DEADS are the best!! They will help all your other poundages go up as well.I do these heavy as possible and satisfactory results.Right now I'm in the beginnings of lifting cycle trying once again to get 500lbs.I 've gotten as close as 480lbs.
I also do stiff leg deads, hypers, reverse hypers.Try this stuff out,but make sure your ab work doesn't lag any as it all has to work together.
YOU CAN SPEND YOUR TIME ANY WAY YOU WANT ,BUT YOU CAN SPEND IT ONLY ONCE.
    MAKE IT WORTH IT!!!!!!

Barbell across your shoulders...standing with slight bend in your knees...bend foward at the waist until your upper body is parallel with the floor..."russian style" is with a flat back and slight arch in lower back...regular style allows for slight rounding of lower back.
