I warm up with like 3 sets and for squats I warm up with like 5 sets!!
I was thinking of cutting down my 4 sets to 3 sets with a warm up set.. Does anyone here warm up for 1 set and if so how much less weight? And what are the benefits/negatives?

Yeah, I usually do 3-4 warmup sets for benching as well (BB anyway, probably just a couple for DB)
Yea sometimes when I dont warm up the third set feels easier than the first. Its weird.
Even if I do warmup, the 2nd working set usually feels easier than the 1st...

Wow, thats a lot of sets. So when you get on that bench you do about 7 sets all together. Working and warm-up including. Can you give me an example of the weight and reps you use? I usually just do the bar about 20 times then get into my working sets. Is that horrible?Originally Posted by Seanp156

Doublebase, it depends what you bench. If you bench 405, then just warming up with the bar doesn't cut it. If you work with 95 pounds, thats probably fine.
But 20 reps IMO is way too high, if you are looking for size or strength.

My max is probably around 205. I usually rep the bar then slap on:
135 x 10
155 x 8
185 x 6
195 x 2-3
205 x 1
FYI I am bulking.
P.S. I usually don't rep the bar, I just slap on 135 and go from there.

Some guys that bench 800 still start with the bar, but that looks fine. I dont do 10 reps hardly ever, but thats personal preference.

depending on how strapped for time i am i'll do up to 5-6 warm up sets for squats/DL's (starting from empty bar working up to 315 nowhere close to failure). for bench since my bench is that of a little girl i don't have as much room to work with so i'll do like 3-4 sets, empty bar-135-155-185.
