    Exclamation Shoulder troubles!

Okay here's the deal, around 4-5 months ago I injured my shoulders, although I really do not know how or when. I think it happened from heavy incline presses.

So, I stopped working my upper body for a couple of weeks to let them heal. I gradually started working upper body again, started out light, and increased weight gradually.

Basically, I stopped doing incline presses and military presses, because every time I would try them it seemed to agravate my shoulders again. Last week I felt like my soulders were 100% and I did flat bench press, heavier than I have done in around 5 months, and I did some military presses. For the last few days I my shoulders again have this dull pain, but it's weird, I only feel the pain when I do certain movements, nevertheless they feel "injured" again.

I have been injured in the past, and this injury is completely different from anything I have ever experienced. I injured muscles and tendons, but I'm starting to think maybe this is ligament damage and that's why it's taking so god damn long to heal.

Has anyone experienced something like this before? Please post any experince, opinions and/or advice. I am about ready to go see a sport's therapist unless someone here has better advice for me.

    Thanks!

Are you using barbell or Dumbells P?
I always find barbell presses bug my shoulders while DB don't.

Sucks to have something like that bug you.
    Cool

I used to use both barbells and dumbbells. Lately just barbells.

Prince...do you know how to perform internal and external rotation of the shoulder with a cable? I'm suspecting rotator cuff damage.

Rotator cuff is my guess too. It may not be damage per say, but an inflamation. I had a similar problem with just my left shoulder and the Dr. said to start doing specific rotator cuff exercises. He also recommended taking 2 Aleve tablets to help with the inflamation. This helped, but what really helped was stretching exercises that kept my shoulders limber. I also found that really heavy partial reps (range of motion limited to the last 4-5 inches before lockout) in the military press made my shoulders stronger and the pain has gone away.

The rotator cuff is made up of four internal muscles that are responsible for stabilizing the shoulder joint...
    -infraspinatus
    -supraspinatus
    -teres minor
    -subscapularis

These muscles are prone to injury because they do not often get trained directly and can be injured when the surrounding delt muscles become disproportionately strong. There are also several exercises that can irritate the rotator cuff when used too often. This is simply known as an overuse injury.

I wanted you to do an exercise for the internal rotators and external rotators to help to determine if it is in fact your rotator cuff that is injured.

The "cure" involves rehab, rest, rotator exercises, and avoidence of certain exercises.

Massage and flexibility are keys to preventing injury and geeting the most out of your workouts, are you working on your upper body flexibility??? Not enough BB strech well, which is vital to the extra mass performing optimally, ask any gymnast.

You need to take a short layoff unless your planning a competion.
Try using upright rows for your shoulders on a pulley stack this will allow a smooth motion with the cables.
Try the RICE method of rest, ice, compression and elevation.
If all else fails quit beating off so much !!

Machines are worse because of the restricted movement patterns!
