    Running

I'm trying to run 20 minutes a day, but I have herd that running every day can be hard on you. Is it alright if I run every day, or should I run every other day?

I used to do it, and much longer distance than that. I would not suggest every day. The long term effect will show in time. I would say 3-4 days at most. Now I just jog every other day and do something else in between with less impact. You should also invest in great thick runner's socks and a good shoe, stretch well and keep the surface softer like grass, sand or treadmill if you can. Thick socks prevent blisters Just my experience and good luck.

it is very hard on your joints, I only do low impact cardio, i.e. elypitical glyder, biking, fast walking.

Even elite class runners normally only do 4-5 days a week and cross train and recover the other ones. Every day is not only bad for your joints, but just like with strength training, it leaves no time for recovery and improvement. You wouldn't do a leg workout every day, right?

Just to give you an idea, my weekly schedule (as a marathon runner) is:

1 long run (anywhere from 2-3 hours)
    1 easy run (45-60 minutes - slower)
1 medium speed run (60-75 minutes)
1 skill run (hills or tempo - intervals for 45 minutes)

Broken up with regular biking, elliptical, yoga and strength training as well.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

Sounds like me. I don't know why but when I used to run a lot I loved it as a low impact source of cardio to take a break from the tension on the joints. Now I hate it. I prefer the treadmill at an incline. I'm just starting to run long distances again and I'm sure I'll change my tune soon.
