When to take a week off

Hi, i've been going to the gym heavy duty on a new program at least the past 5 week(5 days a week, each day a diff muscle area) and i think my progression has been slowed. I was considering taking a week off after this friday to recooperate.. Is this helpful or useful? Thanks.

I couldnt find it, but somewhere on this site someone posted an article where someone did a "scientific" study of bodybuilders/powerlifters or something and that almost EVERY one of them INCREASED in size and strength when measured after a full week off. My week off is about a month away.

I can attest to that study, I do feel stronger and get bigger when I take off that week.

I hear ya...the BEST time to max out (if you care) is after a full week off, you feel great. I dont usually have the tape measure out but I know one thing I dont seem to lose any size whatsoever.

i remeber reading a study like that, or one similar that they took 2 days off and they grew, this proved his hypothesis of that you overtraining is really common with bodybuilders

I don't take weeks off at a time. Just lighten the stress for awhile, then go back heavy. I feel great.

If your worried, do a 50% week. Instead of five days do 2.5.. I mean either 2 or 3, ha.

Arthur Jones, when he trained his bodybuilders, would first and foremost make them rest for up to a week before he had them hit the weights.

In each case, there was significant growth when the time was taken off, although for the most part these bodybuilders were working out daily and sometimes twice per.
