Because one might consider that, at a certain point, squats and deadlifts become so demanding that it is impossible to progress by doing them every week.

Exactly, I was taught to do it that way so I won't burn out and more so now that I'm 40 years old and work like a dog.
I still squat every week though, and also on the weeks I don't dead lift I do back extentions.

I usually do them every week. I squat also every week. You have to spread them out. My legs tend to get very sore.

Yeah, I usually do them every week on back and hamstring day. But on another note...what rep range do you guys usually keep it in? Do you think it's alright to cycle from 6 reps one week and then do a high rep week of maybe 15? Or should deadlifts strictly remain under 10 reps?

I have been deadlifting every week, but I'm switching to every other week for a while in order to concentrate on my squats, since my squats suck in comparison to what I can deadlift.

I can't do squats and deads at the same day, I would have to be carried out.

I keep in the 1-4 rep range and up the weight... in my opinion i feel doing higher reps for deads does nothing for me, I progress better in the range I'm in. Maybe if you were doing something like speed deadlifts, 15 reps would make more sense but doing a working set with that many reps makes no sense to me

I'm 67 and I do Squats (MON) and DL's (FRI) each week. On DL's I do 5X2's twice. I do this because at times I seem to lose the strict form after 3+ reps. By doing 5X2's I can concentrate on my form, recover properly and go again. If I'm on the money that day I can always increase the reps. Strict form is very important, especially on an exercise like DL's.

    Peace

I deadlift once a week and squat twice a week. The second squat session is only 2 sets and not as much weight though.
