I am 18 and i know this is the best time for me to make my gains and i want them to come big. right now i work on my legs once a week and i do Leg presses, Leg extensions, Ham curls and stiff legged deads. 4 sets 10-15 reps with heavy weight. I dont have a training partner so i cant get spots all the time.

We're not talking sissy half squats either. Go a$$ to the floor! If you can't go all the way down and then back up, take some weight off until you can. You're absolutely right, now's the age when you can grow like a weed, take advantage of it. The first lesson is to leave your ego at the door. Old cliche: It's not how much weight you're lifting, it's how you're lifting it. Work the muscle, not the ego.![]()
Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???
I had an Amazing Leg workout yesterday. I think the problem is that if im doing legs together (hams, quads) then i kind of take it easier. yesterday i did just quads. started with BB lunges 3sets, then Leg presses 2sets then 1 giant set of drops. one legged Extensions 2sets, then to end it off SQUATS. 2 sets of as many reps as i could put out until i felt like puking. and i did feel like puking.
Keep Educating, KNOWLEDGE is the POWER
ditto to ALBOB said............and if you have'nt puked yet,try it,then you know you've pushed yourself hard enuf.j/k...keep working your legs ,they'll grow.just train smart..

Yup, squats is da best and you can do them in a squat rack with pins set so you don't need a spotter.

All of the above advice is right on...let me just add one thing. In order to improve the "sweep" of your quads, from the hip into the knee, which is what adds to the "taper" you speak of...
- do your leg presses, squats, and hack squats(personal fav), with your feet close together
- at the top of your leg extensions, turn your toes in, in order to activate the vastus lateralis more strongly...this is the muscle that provides sweep

Another Set Now!!
in case you have not heard, do squats
I just need to say here that although the squat is a great thigh builder for many people, it is not best for everyone. I almost never do squats and have built huge thighs. I rely mostly on leg presses and hack squats. For some, squats just don't fit well with their structure. It is a myth that without squats you cannot build big legs.
