I dont do any warmup but I do other things for chest as well.

I do incline, dips, peck decks and decline all the time.

I am currently at 5 sets of 5 at 235. I am trying to bring my bench op. Every week I have been adding 5 pounds to my sets. It seems to be working, I have never been able to rep 5 X 5 at 235 in my life! I am anxious to see what my 1 rep max is.

Get off the BB bench press and go do dumbbells. I used to do flat BB Bench all the time and then started doing incline dumbbels as a replacment. Way better gains. The heaviest I go is 140lb dumbbells.

After incline dumbells then I go do flat BB bench just to kill it. Incline dumbells uses a lot more stabilizer muscles. Just my .02

Well i say you gotta really train all parts of your chest if you want to be a real man, barbell bench press is a big no no, if your like me and you know more then the average joe then you should know that! I wack on 250lbs dumbells on the incline for 8 reps then i do dips, flat flyies then cable crossovers to really kill my muscles, I say this because i dont know much about anatomy and what inclines really do, i say it becuase that what i THINK is right and i am a man so i should know P.S. SteveMacD (nation level powerlifter) didnt get to bench press over 600lbs raw by just doing flat bench you know, oh wait he did well powerlifters are fat asses and arnt ripped like bodybuilders...oh wait he is ripped and why is his upper chest so built I only come here to brag and talk what i think so dont be horrible to me just ingone what i say becuase i arnt educated enough in to give real opinions.

    Thanks guys

why no warm up? youre just asking for trouble. better to spend a few minutes warming up then to spend a few weeks recovering from an injury.

Weight doesn't matter. It's stress on the muscle that matters.

No doubt! I dropped the weight on my bent-over rows and took it nice a measured with a squeeze at the top and the results were great!

    EXACTLY!

dude, honestly, try it on every single exercize. use only a weight that you can handle wiht perfect or near perfect form, and really focus on conracting the muscle at the top of the movement.

It's hilarious to me when people come up to me and say things like "wow, that's all the weight you use?", when i'm curling like 20 or 25lb db's, but my arms are pumped

exactly. I can make 180lbs feel like the heaviest thing ever if I want.

To say that weight dosnt matter isnt true in all situations, depending on your goals i.e. bodybuilding, powerlifting, olympic lifting etc, lifting heavy weight that dosnt "feel the muscle working" still has its place in weight training.

To simply answer your question: I did barbell bench (decline) for the first time in 5 weeks yesterday(been using dumbbells exclusively for this whole time). I have been cutting this whole time too(lost 14lbs), the last time I repped out I worked my way up to 315lbs and did it 3 times barely. I warm up with 135, jump up to 225 and do 8, I go to 275 and do 6 and then see how many times I can get 315...yesterday it was just two times and had help on the 3rd, then I go back down to 225 and hit it as many times as I can...hit it 18 times. This used to be my basic decline bench routine.

I use a few round metal disks of varying size on each side, they feel pretty heavy especially when I go slow, I quit adding up how many pounds it is I just know that on this exercise add this combination of weights. One day I might put several of the larger disks and a few smal ones and do low reps, some day it might be 2 larger disks and some a step smaller and do high reps with slow negatives and then jump straight into heavy DB's.

Why you ask... because I have so many different plates that look alike but some are 44lbs some 45lbs some 33pounds some 35 pounds etc. I bought some in a set and then a friend gave me his set and the weights are standard and metric so to avoid confusion I don't count weight I just learned to load like plates with like plates and lift.

Weight matters to me because im not exactly a bodybuilder, which is of course the main focus of this site...however i feel that i get quality information on how to make my Functional or Power training effective from here... that being said i try to concentrate with what weight i use.. but the higher the better, i do 4 sets of 5 250 but the more i can slap on with good form, the better IMO
