    Grunting/Straining during your workout

Is it normal to really be grunting/straining a lot during your entire workout. Or is this a sign your pushing yourself to hard?

I'm not really sure beause I always listen to music when I work out. If you're at a gym, at least make sure other people don't notice and get annoyed by it (no need to be rude, even though that's not your intention). I'd say it's normal at least on a heavy day to grunt or something a little bit. If you're that worried about it, it may be wise to take it down a notch. It really depends on how far you're pushing yourself and whether or not you feel worried about it.

Straining? You better be. Grunting...depends. A few guys that I know of grunt for the attention factor, not cool. A bit of grunting here and there is normal, some do it more than others. Im not a grunter but it doesnt mean Im not pushing myself hard.

I grunt sometimes when going heavy and once I near failure. When I really think I might make noise I stick my towel in my mouth, muffles any grunts and gives me something to chomp down onto also.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

nothing wrong with a few grunts and straining here and there. It's just annoying when it's excessive but nobody at my gym is like that. I usually grunt a little at the end of a set when i'm nearing failure.

I'm usually the loudest on Leg Day but I've been known to turn a few heads during other exercises as well.

Is this normal? For me, sure.

Now, a good (audible) sign that you are pushing yourself "too far" is that little squeeking noise you make when the bar crashes down on your chest. That's a dead giveaway.

I usually don't grunt that much, but when I am pushing myself for those last couple reps I usually grunt out "ARNOLD!"

I give out a manly grunt when there are attractive females nearby.

In all seriousness, I usually grunt a few times during those last few reps as I'm nearing failure.

Grunts? Sure, once in a while. But my common reaction to heavy intensity when lifting is usually gasping immediately after the final rep like I was just kicked in the guts.

I had a guy near be the other day sitting there looking at himself in the mirror and grunting on "Comeon you effing bitch" yeah that wasn't cool. I'd say some grunting is normal when getting toward the end of your lift as things get heavier

I've been brought almost to tears when my boyfriend trains me. I push myself a lot and end up getting some grunts in by the end...when he trains me it goes past that and I'm almost in tears cuz I'm pushing so hard. But as long as that weight keeps moving, I have to keep going!
