    break downs?

Hello I have a cousin that use to work out with a payed trainer and he told me ones a week you put all the weight you can bench on the bar and when you can't bench that any more you take a little weight off and do it until you can't bench that any more and you continue till theres nothing but the bar left and you can't bench that any more.

He said that his trainer called the break downs.

Is this good as long as your not sore from working out when you do it?
