I started boxing 2 years ago and for me a speed bag is best...But I was very strong and have a big punch....but my speed was slow.I love the speed bag ( get a small one not the big speed bags) it works the deltoids and triceps + it will help you with endurance in a long fight.

Power comes from technique and genitics...Weight lifting does not = power most of the time. You're bets bet is to join a boxing gym....there usually very cheep $20-$30per month. Work with the boxers at that gym and you will develope much faster.

Look up gyms on the internet....30 miles is not far. If you have a car and have the time, make the trip 2x a week . I love boxing and I drive 20 miles to my gym, if I had to I'dd dvive 50. But if you just want to box in a home gym get a speed bag.....most weightlifting gyms have a heavy bag so you can use it there. Good luck with you're training.

Best way to get faster punches is by punching a bag.. I suppose cutting weight wouldn't hurt either. Speedbag and long-hanging bag over slam man for sure.

I have Slam man in my DOJO and an 80lb heavy bag at home, slam man is good for dialing in your punch location and the heavy bag is good for increasing your punching power. Since I'm more martial arts I want knock out power ,so I use the heavy bag daily.

I would get both the speed bag and heavy bag.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

If you want a KO punch then ACCURACY and SNAP are the most important things. I believe focus mitts with a partner are the best training tool for a KO punch.

If you push the punch your partner will know, but if you snap the shot there will be a definite 'thwack!' on the pad. As far as accuracy goes, if you want the KO, always aim for the jaw. The nose hurts and the temple will put him on queer street, but a good shot to the jaw will drop him like a stone.
