    Why can't I run?

I can do ANY other form of cardio (elliptical, kickboxing, step..etc) for an hour, but running... 5 minutes and I get fatigued and out of breath. Why is that?

you gotta fight through the pain

drink lots of water, make sure you have enough energy before u start lifting/cardio. Cardio isnt easy but you gotta fight through it, keep pumpin until the destinated time u set ends!

Maybe you are running too fast in the beginning of the run. Start running at a slower pace until you can run like a mile or two, then eventually you can work on building your speed up.

first of all... i've gotta have some good music on the MP3 player... i've found about 10 songs that have the same rythym as when i run at 5.5 mph. really keeps me on pace without even realizing it (and i don't have to listen to myself gasp)

also, try to focus on your breathing and get it at a steady pace... breathe in through your nose for 3/4 steps, then out your mouth for 3/4 steps. this will regulate your breathing, and it also helps me to keep the focus on something simple and kind of get into a trance (hope i'm not the only one who does that!?)

but in regards to the elliptical vs the treadmill, i can go 30 minutes strong on the elliptical but not running on the treadmill. but think, could you automatically go an hour in other forms of cardio... or did you have to work up to that over time? same thing with this. keep mixing it up, do what you can, and set a goal for the treadmill... i know this wasn't super scientific but just some personal stuff... good luck and don't think you're alone on that issue!

If you perform any exercise intensly and often enougth (fighting through the fatigue) then sooner or later it will become easier.

You wont see Marines using the "elliptical" or doing this "step cardio" for training I'll tell ya that much, lol. Running is for the strong.
