Near Serious Injury at the gym

I am trying out a doing incline bench press, my left shoulder refused to let me lift the weight when i got to my last set. I've never felt anything like it, it was like a twinge in the top of my left shoulder that wouldn't let me raise the bar after i brought it down.
new gym by my house.. well i could tell the day was off to a bad start when i was
I proceeded to do decline dumbell press, and i was fine for a set or two, but by my last set i was having issues raising my left shoulder up so i could get the dumbell up.. FINALLY(THE REAL ISSUE)

When i was doing decline flys, at a weight i was comfortable at for weeks, as i brought the weights up on my 5th or 6th rep my right shoulder felt strained so i went to lower the weight and i felt like I popped something in my shoulder socket out of place. Maybe i dislocated it for a second, but whatever the case i quickly dropped the weight, stood up favoring my right shoulder and some how it was all in tact, albeit a little painful for that moment it occured. Does anybody have any idea what happened for my bench or this near injury during decline flys?

Right now i'm pain free, although when i move my right shoulder in a certain way(the same way i would do flys) i felt the slightest twinge..

Any thoughts are appreciated. This really freaked me out, one of my worst days at the gym ever.

I hope you were working with a spotter. Were you doing really heavy weight? Why did you do somy sets for decline db flys? I think you may be over doing it. Its hard to say what's wrong. How is your form?

I worked with a spotter, and i was only doing 3 sets of each thing.
I thought my form was good, never had serious problems in the past.
    I'm also nursing a cold.

Have you hurt your shoulder in the past? It could be scar tissue tearing away.

No i've never injured it in the past. Even right now before i go to bed if i move it a certain way it feels uncomfortable, not really painful. Like when i rotate it(a la pitching motion). Any ideas? Why was my left affecting my bench press? But all of a sudden my right popped out.

I've heard it is 2x as easy to overtrain and that your body will waste more of what you eat or supplement with when fighting an illness such as a cold.

You have probably either subluxated your shoulder (not a full dislocation but a movement of the bone in the joint socket) and probably torn or strained a part of your rotator cuff.

When you feel pain doing a movement - stop doing the damn movement! It's your body's way of telling you to stop. If you can't lift your shoulder it's probably a bad thing.

Does it pop when your arm is near the top of the pitching motion?

Yes, as a matter of fact it does feel at it's worst when that happens. Although the pain has subsided, 2 straight days with a heat pack. Did biceps/triceps today with little difficulty. I didn't do a few tricep excercises that might utilize my shoulder more(skulls/overheads)

I plan on taking the rest of the week off, and heating my arm.. I don't want to go to a doctor b/c i don't feel pain and i don't want any bullshit from him. I will take it easy when i come back and see what happens. Anyone else not believe in doctors advice so much unless it's really serious?

I don't believe a doctor's advice when it comes to sports injuries. Most of them don't know how to do anything except give you painkillers. Go see a sports med doc instead.

You might not know if it's serious until you totally destroy it...The way you talk about the pain you better go and see a Doctor ( what does it cost you $20 co pay ?) . And I assume you know what type of doctor to see . The worst lesson to learn in any sport is a severe injury because you cant spend $20 on a visit and 1 hour of time to be safe..........good luck

If you're wrong and have torn a muscle, tendon, ligament ect. and you keep training on that injury you will be taking off a hell of allot more than 6 weeks.
I highly recommend all IronMagLabs supplements!

Has anyone here ever known someone or had a similar type of injury. To give an example. I don't feel anything usually, but when i do the motion for a dumbell shoulder press, as i come down and my shoulders are parallel, my left shoulder feels out of place a little, like something is shifting, it's not pain just discomfort..

I have that, I was diagnosed with hypermobility. Its were your ligaments (under alot of pressure) strecth to far and you bone comes out of joint. I have it in my knees and shoulders. i had my left knee reconstructed when i was 17. and i need my right shoulder done. I stay away from any free weights that include my shoulder and stick to machines.

i used to be OK until one day i was doing incline dumbell and on thge way up my shoulder felt weak, the weight froze and kind of wiggled, then the weight fell between my arm and my face. my shoulder gave way but popped back when the weight was released. ever since then i've stuck to machines or barbells when pressing above my head. get some fish oils!!!

How long did you wait before getting your shoulder checked out.. And could you specifically tell me your routine now?

when i was in high school i took a bad hit in football, thats when my knee was totaaly messed, i was getting an operation on it and had the doc look at my shoulder then and he said i would probably neede to replace it one day. that was 8 yrears ago.

the only workout problems that my shoulder gives me is when i press free weights above my head, so basically when doing any chest or shoulders i use machines for the stability.

chest work out example, my routine changes

    smith machine flat press
smith machine incline superset w/ shoulder press
    machine flys

    shoulder example

    smith shouder press
anterior - dumbell raises super set w/ plate lift
posterior - high row superset w/ low row
    lateral - machine lateral raises

    get some flax oil too!

    hope this helps.

But you get less results with those machines, right?

for the shoulders i just have to stay away from the dumbell shoulder press so its not that big a deal. my shoulder mainly inhibits me from doing free weights with my chest. to answer your question, yes you do get less results from machines because you dont use all the stabilizer muscles that free weights require. not much i can do about it as its much safer than risking an injury that could potentially put me out of the gym for months and dibilitate me for life

what i do is focus on perfect form, selecting the right weight, and slow reps. after the machine bench press i jump off and do some push up till i receive failure. and i recently discovered these:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...lderRaise.html
which i have been supersetting with my incline smith. its too early for me to report any results but im hoping that they will work the stabilizers that im not working due to the machine.

    i hope this helps
