I'd recommend calling any local sports place that might sell weights (around here it's Dick's, but I don't know if you have it down there) and asking if they do sell them. Ask if they have Olympic bars and weights (sometimes they're on sale together). I'd also recommend getting dumbbells as these are more effective than the barbell when they can be used. I would get the ones that unscrew to change the weight so it's much cheaper than having twenty different weights. You should probably get a bench and a pair of gloves too.

how come u arent interested in getting a gym membership instead?? for me...the only way i would have a home gym is if i could spend about 5 grand minimum...i even have everything picked out in my head...
Cuz everytime i get a gym membership i stop workin out. I used to lift in school, but now that i graduated college and work full time i wouldnt go. not to mention the closest gym is like 25 minutes from where i live. I just want to start off with some basics...and keep adding to it. Ill spend five grand easy...just not all at once!

Best place is the classifieds and yard sales all of the new years resolutionists find that they really don't want to workout so they ditch the stuff. 90% of the time it's in excellent condition from little to no use.

Your replies all remind me of something, the guy in your avatar, would say. Is this a reflection of yourself?Originally Posted by Todd_

I don't understand why anywhere near $5,000 would need to be spent on a home gym. Why not spend a couple hundred and use free weights? If you desperately need machines, don't get the top-of-the-line stuff; get something that works.

Thats what i want at first...but it don't hurt to add things one at a time. And not to mention when i get huge im gonna need a lot more weight too. Its expensive. lol.
Well adding free weight periodically is much better than blowing money on machines in my opinion.

amen
The closest gym to my house is over 1 1/2 hours away, so I'm forced to use home equipment. Luckily there's 3 of us who've pooled our resources and come up with a pretty descent setup.
check on ebay. sometimes you can find some good stuff.

i wish i still had a home gym. bench press, dumbells, ez bar, and a pullup bar is all i ever needed. ez bar is optional but i liked mine. sure a gym has nice shiny equipment, but its so much easier working out at home... and all u need is freeweights to get the job done.
Got some weights guys. Thanks!
