quick question about benching
i lift with football, so we generally do flat bench press on mondays and incline bench on friday. and we do this with the barbells
because im trying to get husky, i was thinking maybe i could free weight bench and free weight incline on another set of days as well. would it be logical to then do free weight incline bench on tuesdays and free weight flat bench on thursdays? monday: flat bench (barbell) tuesday: free weight incline (dumbells) thursday: free weight flat bench(dumbells) friday: incline (barbell) would that be alright? or am i not allowing my chest ot get enough rest, even when working different areas of the chest on consecutive days? edit: after reading over a couple posts, im starting to learn that there are no separate areas on the chest, so would this mean that if i do my above routing, that i'd be essentially working out the same muscle 4x a weak..which is a bad thing i assume. ![]() Last edited by jahnetour : 05-20-2005 at 06:23 PM. |

Yes, basically you would be working chest 4 times a week.. I wouldn't recommend that..

I am a little confused by this post. You said that you use a barbell for flat bench on monday and incline on friday, this is considered free weights. You then go on to ask if you can use free weights on Tuesday and Thursday, did you mean dumbells machines or what?
SPIKE is right definetly should do that much for chest. Most of the guys here are advocates for working the chest once a week as well as back once a week legs once a week etc. I think you should just stick with benching on Mondays and Fridays. You should also incorporate dumbell bench into these days as well. Weather that be you start off with barbell and finish with dumbell or the other way around. You might want to tell your "lifting coach" about this website as well, although judging from my high school coaches they might come here and start trying to spread their propeganda. |

HI. It does seem that your proposed workout would be overtraining. Your muscles do need some time to recover!!
