Yes, aside from the obvious (variety & quality of equipment) a gym offers more motivation then working out at home. IMO

    I use both.

home gyms never worked for me. all the equipment just serves as clothes hangers and a place to put stuff. the gym is and will always be the only way for me to go.

I worked out at home for a couple of years before going to a gym. But when I started going to the gym I never touched the home equipment again.

I have been toying with the idea of investing in a home gym. Sometimes, the convenience of just waking up rolling out of bed and starting the work out would be great.
Sometimes the 20 minutes to go and get ready and 20 minutes to drive and shower is a lot. seriously.
i really couldn't see my motivation being differnt in either place.
And I've found machines to be inferior to plain weights. IMO.

Well my membership has been renewed for about a week and a half now . My motivation is much higher than when i worked out at home . When i worked out at home not only was it convienent to start a workout but many times to easy to stop early or become distracted . Not true with the gym , i feel more purpose and focus .

I agree with the motivation factor, at the gym I want to get my work oput in and get out. But when at home working out distractions where always a problem.

The gym is a great place to work out but the only thing I don't like about it is the location, right outside it is ever fast food joint you can think of, so when I come out hungry after a workout, the smell is awesome

I no longer belong to a gym. One reason is because of convenience. I work shifts and the gym hours never seem to fit my schedule. Second, I hated waiting for a piece of equipment. So, I went and bought all commercial equipment and started lifting at home and love it.

I have always found that the motivation level is alot higher working out a the Gym, then at home.

It's always nice to pickup workout\supplement tips from the other guy's as you work out as well.

Gym for me. I feel that there are two many distractions working out at home (i.e. - kids, phone, wife). when i get to the gym i can totally focus on what i have to get done and get out.

The gym keeps me motivated. I don't know if it's because I am paying for it, or because of all the other people working out (probably a little of both). Powerhouse is awesome. I switched to them from Bally's about three months ago. Remarkable difference between the way the two are run.

I agree that you can get a much better exercise in the gym but, usually the down fall of any exerice routine is getting to the gym. That's why I love working out at home. I may not always tax the muscle as I would hope but, I am always working out.

It's too easy to get lazy at home and after a while there's no variety left.

It is a different attitude between those two places . Powerhouse is definetly set up more for the true meatheads People who are serious about training were as Ballys is more of a social club ( just my opinion ) I'm sure there are serious trainers at Ballys but i do enjoy the Powerhouse atmosphere more .

man im pretty sure training at the gym is much more better. It has more equipment where it will maximise your workout where when training at home, you have very limited equipments(unless you have a big house where you have every single type of weights). In the gym, you even get to correct your form if its wrong.

I workout ONLY at home.........And I've always wanted to open my own gym, but I don't see anyway to make any money at owning my own gym.

I get up in the morning (0600hrs) and do cardio on a bike or treadmill........then in the evening afterwork, I lift.........and lift and lift.......

I like it because, I can go in my workout room, turn on a hockey game or ESPN. And if I need a spot, I just hollar down the hall for my son. Works out really well. And if my son (who is a wrestler) is off season, he works out with me. And another plus, is that when I get done, I'm able to get my post workout protean without driving home.

    just my opinions....

Have I got it wrong...or havent any ladies answered here yet??? I started out with the home gym set up...my hubby got interested too...its a great stress release for him....only problem is...the kids never go near him when he starts ..... but the moment I head to the room...all hell breaks loose!!!! So I have the membership to our local gym...they have a set up to take the kids....Im motivated to get there just to have an hour and a half without anyone calling me mum....no greater motivation in my books!!!! Wanted to get the hubbs membership...he said no, cos he doesnt like the crowds or skinny shytes telling him how to lift!!!!!
Smile at your enemies, it'll drive them crazy.........'cos that twinkle in your eye means your up to something!!!!

I have a home gym, its good cos if i forget how to do a workout routine i can quickly reference. The only downside is that I have to keep stopping to change the weights. In a gym, I would just pick up and train.

GYM, definatley!! Funny though, I hate it when it's busy and you have to wait for equipment, but if it's empty I seem to lack intensity. Seems best when there are a handful of guys working really hard! Oh yeah, throw in a couple of sweatin babes as well!!!
