Squats

I got a couple questions about squats... does anyon else get blood blisters on their shoulders after doing heavy squats? is there a way to prevent this without using a pad? and what is considered heavy enough to begin using a belt?

thanks

I don't, but some people do. No big deal unless it really bothers you. You can also use a belt whenever you feel like it. If you have really good form it is not really necessary, but there is no specific weight to start at. If you feel like a belt will help you stay safe, use it.

Blood blisters? No.

Broken blood vessels? Sometimes. I get them everytime I do calves with the 500lbs on my shoulders. However, when I do squats, the weight is on my low traps. If youre talkin about broken blood vessels, then it is nothing to worry about.

As for the belt, youll get different responses on it. I typically only use a belt when I go above 75/80% my 1RM. The belt is all about how heavy the weight is for you, how much work you have to do to get the weight up. Its not necessarily about the weight, as everyone moves differnet weights.

wear a hooded sweater. Have your hood down place the bar on the hooded area. Its extra padded works well

When I started doing squats I used towels, foam pipe insulation w/ towels and the weight still bothered me. One day I was using a moderate weight, it's kinda hard to explain but I found this "groove" just below my traps. It was like putting your hand in a glove. The bar fit so perfect it was as though I had no weight on my back at all. Made all the difference in the world.

That "groove" is there, just keep looking.

Peace
