Working out at night

Is it a good idea to work out late at night before you go to sleep?
If not, what is the best time to work out during the day?

Early in the morning is best, your test. levels are highest when you wake up.

well.. that is debatable, i'm not so sure that there is a best time for everyone

IMO the best time to workout is when you feel the most focused and motivated, it is an individual thing really

Of course there are execptions, but if it doesn't make a difference in your preformence, then early morning is best. You are right though, I can't stand to work out right after I wake up.

Does a guy ever hit an age where he doesn't have morning wood? Kinda inhibits my sleeping if you know what I mean.

I've never been able to work out in the morning; I'm always too tired, even with proper nutrition and adequate sleep the night before. I usually workout in the afternoon or after dinner.

I can't work out in the morning either. I work out around 4 or 5pm each day.

3pm

I get off work at 3 and head straight to the gym.
I did read in this "Body Fitness for Women" book that morning is best, but it depends on you. and daily routine. If your body gets used to working out at say, 3pm, then it's easiest and best for your body to keep that routine.

Test levels are highest in the morning, not being able to preform in the gym just when you wake up has nothing to do with test levels.

Yep, and GH is released in your sleep. So everyone has some kind of argument as to when you should work out, and test levels being high in the AM is somewhat short lived, there is no ester ensuring a 'slow' timed release or anything like that. So everyone has some kind of argument as to when you should work out, just workout when you are most awake.

Working out right before bed is probably a good way for some of us NOT to get to sleep. I'm sure some can do it, I workout about 3 hours before bed these days, just due to timing.

Ignoring all the reasons WHY, I just know my energy is highest in the morning. Therefore that's when I would prefer to workout. Unfortunately, my schedule doesn't allow that right now. I workout as soon as I get off work, around 5:00 PM. The only noticable problem I've found is after a REALLY good workout I find it very difficult to get to sleep that night. This is especially true after a great leg workout. I assume it's due to endorphines running wild in my system and keeping me wired. The upside is I get two very good meals in immediately after my workout and right before I go to bed. Great for muscle growth.

Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???

Since it's the summer, my friends and i started working out at 11:00 or 11:30 in the morning...
I'm noticeably less energized....and I find that my strength is a little on the low side...but everyone else wants to continue in the morning....

Whereas we used to workout at 3:00 p.m., which i was strongest...oh well

P.s. about the morning wood going away...I used to get it a lot, but by the time i turned 16 i stopped getting it at all...maybe 1 time a week or less....

I couldn't stand trying to workout in the morning. It usually takes me a good 3 hours after I get up to feel awake.. The best time for me to workout lately has been around 2-4 pm. Now that summers here, I might try some late night training though (10 pm and later). During the summer I often have lots of energy at night.

i used to be unable to function in the morning and work out a night. lately ive been geting up having a small meal, usually a bowl of shredded wheat, and going to the gym, doing my weights and the cardio.

doing this and eating small meals every couple of hours my metabolism has soured. i have way more energy all day, i can see my body fat melting and im not losing weight, hence increasing lean musclle mass.

i know its hard, but once you get used to going in the morning it way worth it!!!
