Partial Reps

Ok found out i have a torn left rotator cuff. My doctors advice is to stop lifting. Just can't find it in my heart to do this. Will have 1 injection this Wed of cortison.
Here's my question. I found that short range partial reps don't seem to effect the cuff so bad. I'm talking about only bringing the bar down on bench or incl bench about 4-6" and then back up. I was going to take a weight 1.5 x my 1 time max and use it for the partials. Can you still build muscles using partial range movements. Jump in on this Spike and tell me your thoughts also.

yea, you can still make gains with these- most will be strength, but you will still gain some muscle. id recomend following your doctors advice though, because that still puts stress on the rotator cuff.

Actually, there is an entire training methodology based on partial movements called POWER FACTOR TRAINING.

Couldn't of found a better person to respond. thanks Mr. " G ".....Is that training you are talking about any good. Have you tried it by any chance. I have the feeling it's gonna have to suffice for all my pressing type movements from now on. At least for a while!

I have been doing partial reps for bicep with bb curls for my last few bicep workouts (due to an injury) and I've seen some good results.

My pleasure. I do not endorse training exclusively with partial reps, but they certainly have their place and can create a unique stimulus for your muscles. You can work an exercise in the strongest part of the range and overload them with more weight than you could ever use in a full movement. They are also valuable in a situation like yours where and injury prevents a full range of motion.
