Seated Cable rows

Which part of the back does cable rows train? First of all I was told it was the the lower/small of the back, then I was told it was more toward the top - by the trapezius... .....Then, yesterday, I was told to straighten my back more because "they were working the lats, therefore I needed to be straight so the lower body doesn't emphasize the work"...Confused, is the word. I'm pretty sure it's just a general overall back exercise.

I would say that rows are overall exercise for the back. I would also say that whatever the exercise you do, if your making progress on it, keep it...

God bless

Thanks Chunk. I like the exercise, I think it's benefiting me, I just like to know where it is benefiting, and incorrect advice from my instructor does not help

I agree with you, overall back, that's where I feel it's hitting me. Cheers.

Seated cable rows work your lats primarily.

doesn't it depend on where you bring the handle? to your abs or to your chest....

You should bring the handle to your abs, cuz if it's at your chest, you're using to much arms to pull.

Also, if your lower back is burning more than you can handle, you're going forward too much on the movement, and working your erectors more than the intended lats that the exercize is for. Just roll your shoulders forward, then squeeze your shoulder blades back as far as possible. Pretend your arms are merely hooks holding the weight, and your bakc will grow in no time.

You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.
