    3 days instead of 5?

Hey guys, I am wondering if maybe I am going to the gym a little too much. I mean i have the time right now during the summer to go 5 days(im in college), but i may get a job soon and wont have as much time. Heres my routine right now in terms of body part per day Monday-Back Tuesday-Off Wed-Chest Thurs-Tris/Bicep Friday-Legs Saturday- Shoulders Sunday-Off, I also try to mix in Abs 1 day a week and a some light cardio 2 times a week(im really trying to put on weight, skinny guy). Do you guys think i can get as good a work out in 3 days, doing something on the lines of day 1-chest/shoulders/tris Day 2-Legs Day 3-Bis/Back with Abs sprinkled in on one of those days? I just wonder if doing 2-3 exercises that work the same muscle can be cut to maybe 1 exercise, or doing more compound exercises would be just as beneficial. Thanks.

I'm in a similar situtaion. I'm doing chest/shoulders/tris in one workout. It's tough. I haven't cut any exercises yet (since combining shoulders with my chest day), but after doing chest/tris I'm pretty worn out for shoulders. I guess try it for a couple of weeks and see if it works for you.

You guys could try a push/pull split for two days and do legs the 3rd day.

I'm adding my 2 cents in here and don't care what anyone thinks about it. I have over the years tried to work push 1 day, pull 1 day and legs another. here's my problem with it. I alway lift as heavy as possible. If I'm to do all push movements on one day i run into this problem. After working chest as heavy as i can, any overhead pressing for shoulders and down goes the weight because of heavy chest presses. There is just no way I can get the workout I want for shoulders if following heavy chest. I found that By set two of overhead presses that my weight drop is at least 50 lbs lighter then when worked on it's own day. I'll separate shoulder from chest and work them on different days

I totally agree with you on this too. I do an improvised push/pull where I do all my chest movements and half of my tricep and shoulder movements...I actually do a 4 day routine where one of the days (friday usually) I fill in an excercise that I was too tired or sore to do on the push/pull day that it was supposed to be on. BUT if a guy ONLY has 3 days to put his workout into the push/pull will at least allow you to work all bodyparts.

I prefer to lift 3-4 days a week over 5.

So do i but there can be no overhead presses for me on chest day. Man that just kills me and chest takes all my strength away from any type of overhead presses. I'm thinking of adding shoulders to leg day someway

    Push day.
    Chest, shoulders, tri's:
Chest: flat bench, incline bench ect
Shoulders: military presses has to be there for me
tri's: Close grip or reverse grip as no skulls because of torn tendon in left elbow.

Man Just burn out by the time i get to either tri's or shoulders. can't do it.....Wuss Tough

3-4 days a week is the best. Muscle grow when they rest so let them rest.

i dont how will a push/pull day be less streneous than a chest/shoulders/tris day.....
I done the former before and got tired more quickly. Chest, then back is more demanding for myself. ..So I think the latter one is your best bet, i been doing them for months... It's up to you, try it and decide....

Funny thing I have no problem working chest and back the same day. Probably from doing the dogg crapp training for a while. I actually enjoy working them on the same day. Feel like my upper body really gets a good workout...

Today was a just do whatever day for me and this is what I did
    Incline db bench
    T-bar Rows
    Military press
    pulldowns
    Hack squats
    Leg Presses
    Cable pushdowns.
    Enjoyed this workout today

I also heard doing bi and back gets you tired as well.
    Maybe bi and chest
    back and tris?
    Shoulder by itself?
