No, the exercise is still primarily for your back/lats. That grip will provide more of a load on your biceps though, but I'm sure you knew that.
doing close grip pull-ups where the palm of the hands face each other (kind of hammer grip style). does this work the biceps and forearms more than the back/lats?

i know it still works the back/lats but it feels as tho it works the bis more, only feeling of strain on the lats is right under the arms.very upper part of the lats.if u get me
It seems to me, the closer your grip is, the more incorporated the biceps become. The lats are always involved, but at a lesser degree.

Seriously, try to create a bridge between you're thinking (hopefully working your lats) and the physical movement. Feel your lats pull the weight not your arms. I know it sounds hoaky but it works.
You can focus more on the back or biceps but ultimately you are working both. If I want to focus on the lats in any exercise I pull with my elbows ( Not literally) and not my biceps.Originally Posted by Ryan-Boro

If you want to isolate the lats,
For a change, use lifting straps, and pile on huge anounts of weight,
The larger muscle group (lats) will take over to do the work where the bi's fail...
Or do Bi's and back on the same day...
Hit bi's first, they'll be dead, and this will force the lats to jump in and move the weight
Have Problems?... Chances are its due to overpopulation

OH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN "LIKE PULL WITH YOUR LATS N NOT BI'S" I DO GET YOU,THATS WHAT I DO.I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IN THEORY IT HITS THE BI'S MORE THAN THE LATSOriginally Posted by largepkg
Im a pullup monkey.
Try this one: Take two towels, drape one on each side of a pull up bar, kinda far apart for some wide lat action. Take your hands and hold on to the dangling portion of the towel. Now pull yourself up, and down, and up, and down, etc. Great forearm workout along with a fabulous lat workout. For some added fun, hold yourself (rather, your arms) at a 90 degree angle for a while.
Ilovepullupssomuchomfg. I bet people make fun of the pullup-esque exercises I do...I know they're laughing at me.
Oh, in regards to your original question...those bars you're using for pullups are great for working the biceps. Not a lot of lat action going on with them, and there isn't tons you can do to avoid that except doing pullups on a regular bar with a wide grip. More lats, less biceps.
